Prices seem to have gone into free fall and I'm looking for something practical and a run around.

Any advice on things I should be looking for on early cars? What sort of real world fuel economy do they give? How long do tyres and brakes last?

Anything else anyone can think of?

Cheers

If price, practicality and economy are important, go for the X5 3.0d ('04 on)

27 mpg, cheap(ish) servicing (every c.18k miles), tyres last c.35k miles, front pads c.40k miles, and good residuals.

Also, excellent performance and handling, and prettier than the Cayenne wink

Sorry but X5.... YUK! If I wanted minimum costs I'd prob buy a Passat TDI Estate...

No costs aren't hugely important as I'm not going to do huge mileage in it was just interested to find out what people are getting and if there are any known issues I should look out for when buying.

I'd choose an X5 V8, but if you are set on a Cayenne Turbo then make sure you get the OPC warranty. They go wrong more than BMWs and cost fortunes to fix, even minor problems.

For example, I had one where the Keyless entry wasn't working properly, it needed a whole new door handle (they don't sell just the switch) which was £143+VAT plus over 6 hours to fit (complete door strip down). It also had two faulty PDC sensors - £60 each plus painting and fitting (at only £45 an hour from an independent) made it over £400.

The warranty cost is the same as for a 2.7 Boxster and vital on a Cayenne Turbo.

I am surprised to see how much the Cayenne S is now going for. 4.5L V8 Porsche with a throaty roar for the pipes for less than £25K? Bargin me thinks.

There are several turbos on autotrader for sub 30k now. 03s too!

Outrageous depreciation. Soon we'll have to be a two porsche family if they keep going down.

I suspect it is the only car in the range that Porsche officially sanction the fitment of a tow bar to. smile

Had mine now for coming up 2 weeks.

Purchased mine from Sutton Coldfield. They are not offering great discounts, as I think there are around 15 cars available around the country.

These cars do need the warranties, just in case..Not sure what type of warranties the Indy's will be offering. I found the Porsche GB owned dealerships had a premium over the other OPC's. Try to find one with:

1) Brand new tyres all round
2) Recent service
3) Good color (Black or tittanium)
4) Many extras as possible (to go wrong..)

Fuel comsumption is not good, getting around 14-15 mpg.. However it is a monster of a car. Not your usual SUV.

Many people on these boards don't like them, don't be put off....

Bought one (an S) around this price point a couple of weeks back. Delighted with it, an absolute beast of a car. I can only imagine that the Turbo would be the same but even more so Turbo = S+110bhp-5mpg wink

It's quick, handles for a big car, cruises like nothing I've driven before, has heaps of room for kiddiewinkles and their "stuff" has a great V8 rasp when nailed.....I could go on - I'm a convert!

Ps. the looks are growing on me too, it's never going to be a pretty, delicate little flower but in a brutish kind of way it looks good, esp in Black or Titanium.

Must haves are

"tellies" preferably at least 3

Blacked out windows (dark as possible please)

If you can find one with chrome 'spinnaz' then thats a big bonus as the next buyer of your Cayenne will definately want these (to cruise the Hood and look good outside their council house...oh I mean crib)

Totally. For me one of its best attributes. I could really do a Cayenne turbo, I really could. Safe, fast, handly and says *everything* I want to say to these enviro-nutters without me having to say it.

Love 'em. I'm quite tempted to get into one for my next family steed.

My Friend has been running a Cayenne S from New since March 05 - He has the air suspension...

So far, his costs have been...
1 x Set of tyres at 20k miles (Cayennes with air-suspension wear their tyres at a lesser rate than conventionally sprung Cayennes)
1 x Warranty renewal
4 x Wiper Blades (they seem to go hard very easily, for whatever reason)

His economy to date has averaged 19.6 MPG

He had a failed electric seat motor replaced under warranty -

Other than that no faults or complaints to speak of at all.

Of course, the Turbo Cayenne will probably do around 5MPG less I would have thought.

Yup, I'm going to go for one.

Now all I have to do is find the right one.... I think Black or Grey with Black Leather.... I'll be keeping an eye on here and Autotrader, but if anyone sees a nice on come up, 03 '53' or 04 '04' ish age, upto 30K miles anywhere else, give me a shout!

Cheers

RSJ Sportscars have a nice 04 plate in black, 24k miles. However I think the price is a little heavy for an Indy..

Paracetemol, you must live in a seriously affluent area, if your local council house folk can afford Cayennes. BTW has is the Fezza/Fiat wink
