Getting under my car....

Ok so I am finally about to buy a house with a garage that has ample space for me to tinker with my toys. I have thought about getting one of those electric ramp-things from Clarke but am wondering if there is a less expensive and equally effective way of getting my car off the floor. Are axle stands and trolley jacks the way forward - ie jack up one axle first and then do the other one?
