Anglesey is open for business againThe completely rebuilt Anglesey circuit opened in style on Saturday (26 May) when the North Western Centre of the BRSCC ran the first races on the spectacular 1.55-mile coastal circuit.
The two-day meeting drew a record entry for Anglesey, with over 210 cars filling the paddock. Drivers in the Pre '90 classes in the North West Formula Ford Championship had the honour of being the first to race on the new track and it was Nigel Thompson who carved a place in racing history by winning the opening race.
Thompson (Van Diemen RF88) had to battle ahead of Lee Hannam (Reynard 88FF) for his first ever race victory, while young novice Douglas Crosbie completed the podium in his Van Diemen RF88.
"This is my first ever car victory. I've been quick all weekend and it’s the first time I've been on a level playing field with everyone else because I've only been racing a year," said Thompson. "I absolutely love the circuit. That's a race to remember!"
Fastest cars on track on the opening day were contenders in the 2000 class of the Stoneguard Mono Championship, which was won by Mark Harrison (Dallara F398). "It's a busy lap and the surface is great. These F3 cars really feel the bumps, so it's great for them. And there are plenty of passing places," said Harrison, who was touching 140mph before braking for the Rocket Complex. By the end of the opening day, the first outright lap record stood to Jeremy Timms (Van Diemen FX) in 1m07.768s, an average speed of 82.340mph.
Speaking on behalf of the organising club, Tom Dooley was full of praise the work done on the new track. "The run-off areas are fantastic, and that makes it an easier venue to run. People will want to come here and race and we've got the best entry we've ever had at Anglesey."

Discussion
Probably lost some of its charm, but gained a lot in facilities and quality of track. There's also a wonderful viewing spot above Peel where you can see the circuit in all its glory.
Due to the amount of cone anihilation, some of the marshals were going to let it slip that one was filled with concrete - but not say which one - and then see who cut the corners!

K1 CERB & I were there as spectators 
Had excellent grandstand seats
Has to be noted that there are no kerbs or gravel traps to slow down the 'offs' and the cone annihalation did not go unoticed (there were 10 on this corner at the start of the race!)
Apparently they only finished laying the tarmac on Tuesday, so well done to those that did to get it ready ontime and organise an excellent weekend.
PS Big Up to Novice MG No. 80, was excellent to see you develop over the weekend and such a shame it went a bit wrong on the last race - just as you were about to pass the MGF...

I was there Thursday night to Sunday night running a Porsche 924 (#6/66).
Had an excellent weekend, there was testing on Thursday and Friday, and we got talking to an engineer who had been involved with the track build on Thursday night in the "Circuit Bar" and he said that they had just finished washing the track off as the cars were leaving the pit lane for the first session, so cutting it fine!
They also said that curbs will be put in place later and they had to put cones out to stop a lot of corner cutting on Thursday testing.
The view from the pit wall is very good and from the top, by Rocket complex. A very good spectator track, and from walking it on Friday night after testing and feedback from the drivers a nice and challenging track to drive too.
Very entertaining Quali's and Racing on Saturday and Sunday too! Especially with the rain on Sunday and the new track surface!
A big thumbs up to everyone for a good weekend.
Also, to K1 Cerb...I have a Nogaro Blue Audi S3 and I was driving through the welsh hills on Saturday afternoon!!

We did enjoy that 'drive', especially when we blatted through the Wedding & had the Photographer take our Photos!
I Knew you could do things, & was pleased to see you go by on the downhill section past the hikers. We made a point of 'doing' the EVO Triangle, I'd recommend that next time you're that way!
We stayed in the hotel the Porsche Scrutineers stayed at. We'd have put in a good word if we'd have known.

Yes we were taking the 'fun' route back to Anglesey for qualifying, and I thought we'd go down some of the roads featured in EVO to see if they lived up to their reputation...and they did, especially when meeting an M12 GTO3R on the way! I will definitely do the full triangle next time.

We were also hoping to do some road driving on the Friday afternoon & Sunday. Can you outline the EVO triangle - it's Bets y Cowd direction isn't it? Also, any local knowledge on good roads in the area would be greatly appreciated!

I just wanted to mention that Chester Motor Club is running two rounds of the MSA British Sprint Championship at Anglesey this weekend, 9th & 10th June.
On Saturday the full 2.1 mile International GP circuit should be used in anger for the first time.
On Sunday, the 1.2 mile National circuit will be used.
The entry list is superb, with everything from bog standard 1.4 saloons, modified saloons, caterhams, kit cars, sports cars, Paul Matty Lotus', historic cars, right through to the very fastest Gould, Ralt & Pilbeam single seater racing cars in the country.

Also, tomorrow, 8th June, Bookatrack have a track day there and up to yesterday they had 6 places left.
