Sorting thread duplication....

Quite often there's thread duplication from news stories or simply a new thread would be better as a part of a current one. Currently what happens is that the duplicate gets locked with a pointer to the original so it drops of the page and sometimes (admittedly not always
) relevent info or comments don't get seen.
Would it be possible to stitch the threads together? So the duplicate thread's comments slot into the original?

) I've resolved this so that duplicates shouldn't get created at all.
