I've just taken a deposit on my beloved 996 ... The new owner is coming to pick the car up after the weekend.

Absolutely gutted right now , as it'll be a while before I can get back on the pork saddle .

... I'll go now , get my head together and post a little more later.

Why is it so many people are selling 996's of late and appear sad about the sale?
If you all liked the car so much why move on??......I sold my 996 in 03 and despite it being competent and totally reliable, I never regretted selling for more than a second smile

Hope you're gonna stick around..

Thanks guys ... It's more than a little traumatic selling the best car you've ever owned.
I always felt it a privilege to have a 996 , and it always treated me well ... With the odd slap on the wrist when I deserved it!
The only regret I have is that ownership was tinged with worry about the various troublesome bits and bobs that came up here , even though I did have the warranty (which by the way was a great selling point).
In the 18 months of owning the car , it never once let me down (and that couldn't be said for my previous BMW..) ,the most serious thing to be-fall it was failure of the oil pressure needle , and that was of course covered... Although I did have to endure a week of primera-land while the car was in Belfast (and you lot had to endure a week of me moaning on about said Primera).

Suffice to say I'm not going far , I'll be here to bug y'all for the foreseeable.
Sadly , I'm not in a position to up-grade at the moment , so it'll be a case of banking the proceeds and waiting for the prices to come to Papa!!

In the mean time , if you see someone tootling along some Dublin by-way in a sh1t box golf while hammering on his steering wheel and shouting obscenities at his dash , take pity and throw him a cheery wave , it'll be me , and I'll be needing one..

By the way ... Here's my ad on an Irish car site...

I'm showing it here;

A. to give the anti-savannah brigade a laugh (and boy do we all need the odd laugh!) and
B. To let you guys in the UK realise how good you have it price-wise ...

Nice ad...

So what's to stop importers bringing cars over there for a tidy profit? confused

A crazy little thing called .... VRT.
Vehicle Registration Tax ... All cars imported have to pay this and it's currently running at ... 30% the price of the Irish car. So if you import a '99 996 from the UK at a nominal 38k euro , the Irish government will then slap 30% of the Irish price (around 56k euro) on it. Hey presto , another fughin crazily priced car is born!

The only exception is if you've been living outside of Ireland for more than a year , and you take your car to Ireland cos you're moving there ... No VRT to be payed , and it's a nice little profit when you do sell.

Well done Ballcock-those prices must be the reason why my sisters boyfriend from Cork thinks Im some kind of goddam millionaire!(Although mine has the Boxter Red leather which would be a bit of a premium of course)..
