Rear Differential Bearing
Discussion
Making similar comparisons, I came up with a figure of about £475.00 to change an output shaft seal (obviously more if there's a bearing as well) and about £950.00 for a complete exchange diff. Problem is that when you change the bearing there's a question over how successfully you can get the new seal to work and not leak.
Obviously these prices are TVR dealer or specialist independent and include parts, labour and VAT. They are about 2 months old. IF your budget will go to it, I'd recommend the 'new' diff every time!
Hope this helps. Nick.

Its the same design as most RWD diffs, you will need two pinion bearings front/rear and the two diff carrier bearings(sides)3 oil seals front pinion & output sides and possibly a new collapible spacer(dont skimp bearings are not expensive) thats where it may get tricky because this as a bearing(no pun intended) on the mesh of the crownwhel and pinion(noise)and ultmately the life of the bearings(preload)this part is most important but do not be scared off,if you cant do this bit then get a trans specialist to do this, their is no need for a new unit unless the case is damaged and should not cost silly money because its TVR these things are not rocket science, good luck
and if its a GKN unit not particularly reliable.
