food & le mans
Discussion
as unseasoned campers, i was wondering if there are plenty of chances to get cheap good food nearby. will there be many resteraunts or will they be rammed and prices sky high? will we be paying an englishesque £4 for a half cooked burger on some dodgy mobile van?? or is the grub great

Hi
you'll not starve put it that way! there's stacks of places up in 'the village' to get a bite to eat, lots of french bread pizzas, panini's etc etc all cheap, around £3.50. if you're camping though bring some bbq fodder, stop off at one of the giany hypermeglomarts on the way in and stock up. Be warned though, if your sticking around on Sunday evening, save some grub as everything vanishes immediately after the race finishes!
Or you can just do what we do and drink Guinness all weekend and sod the food bit

Here's our very own 'Masterchef' Dave Harper knocking out his speciality dish of Garlic Prawns on Saturday night. The 'sack' in the background is full of baguettes bought from a van trundling around the campsite with a very annoying horn. Our chef is bandaged-up due to falling off his petrol scooter after drinking Guinness since breakfast.

i'm looking forward to being able to buy BN biscuits aswell!!! can't seem to get them over here...
on a slightly different note, has anyone "eaten out" in le mans, thinking of the chinese restraunt on the huandieres (sp) or something like that?
is it worth a try? will the queues be too long? will i die?

The only things we take are;
Decent bangers - beyond the Toulouse, french sausages are distinctly below par.
Bread - French bread is magnifique but has a shelf life of around 15 minutes before it starts to extract fillings.
Brown beer - because you can still drink it when warm!
Everything else is courtesy of Mr LeClerc in Alencon.
Many people swear by the wonders of Carrefour but, quite frankly, we can never be arsed to go there once we`ve arrived!

In the town or at the circuit? Le Balcon in the village is really good.
In town : Maitre Kanter in the Jacobin Square (below the cathedral); l'Auberge des 7 plats and Patagruel in the old town are also good. The Corail opposite the station recommended too. LM is brimming with good restaurants - hard to find a duff one really. I've tried the chinese - it's fine but a bit of a pity to eat Chinese when you're here in France.
