How many do you throw away for the ones you keep? I ditched these 4 shots of the same scene in favour of the one on my site.

the one I kept: http://www.mattwatkinson.com/travel/11.htm

They all look good, but I think you made the right choice. I seem to delete about half of what I take, but then, none of my photos are actually good photos.

FWIW, I prefer the last one here to the one one your website. Great work by the way, on your travels. Did you go to Oz? If so you might have seen some Peter Lik galleries. Loverly work, lots shot with 6x17 Linhof.

Wonderful shots as ever Matt. yes

I have been trying to create this effect with some water shots but failing badly so far, while I can
get the effect, the shot is over exposing.

Could you give me any pointers? scratchchin

Thanks for the feedback Paul. I never saw any of his stuff but I spent a fair while salivating about the place in Ken Duncan's gallery. Another Linhof man. Needless to say, I bought a 617 when I got home! smile

Cuban, you need a polariser to knock the reflections off the water so you can see the riverbed, and an ND filter to slow the shutter right down. Most of these were 6/8 seconds. The white water will probably blow out as mine has but thats expected.

Here is another one where I couldn't decide which format I preferred!

Thanks for that. smile
Would a Cokin ND Filter be a good choice and do I want x2, x4 or x8?

Edited to add, number 1 stairs for me. smile

Nice stairs Matt! (Number 2 for me) How's the monster camera?

Cuban

As Matt says. Also, Choose a dull day - bright sun will blow the white straight away, make sure ISO is lowest poss - and the less contrast in the scene the less you will over expose on the highlights.

its a fotoman 617 with a rodenstock grandagon N 90mm. It's going back to robert white tomorrow though. Got some really odd stuff going on with the lens:

- It's in focus but not sharp (at sensible apetures even)
- The fall off of light towards the edges is a. unacceptable when you fork close to 200 notes on a centrespot and b. uneven
- There is some damn odd fogging at the sides of the frame

Either the lens ain't on properly or is defective, the centrespot is crap or the film plane isn't flat, which I can't believe with such a chunky pressure plate on the back.

Any ideas?

Matt

Not really. Never heard of fotoman. IIRC, the Grandagon was the lesser lens compared with Super Angulon. The centre spot should work and obviously there shouldn't be any fogging. Yep, send it back.

Just had a look at RW, amazing what's out there and some of the Horseman stuff looks very interesting, albeit loads of £££. Shame the Fuji's no longer available although you might be able to pick one up on fleabay. I would love a Linhof someday when I have some spare dosh.

I did consider the linhof 617...tis a beast. But the closest it focuses is 3 metres or something silly. That ain't right surely?!? Aye, to be rich...I'd bag a horeseman 612 for good measure too!
