That proves nothing of the sort, it just proves that particular rider can ride with a fair degree of injury.

You mean motorbike racing is so easy you can compete with a broken arm.

lets face it, any one one who dresses up in a sweaty leather outfit to sit astride a souped up vibrator whilst trying thier hardest to throw it at the scenery at obscene speeds and angles, and miss, aint quite the full ticket,

at least the guys in cars stand a chance of surviving intact.

Car racers are pansies?

Yeah of course, especially that wimp Jackie Stewart winning the Nurburgring Grand Prix by over 4 minutes, with a broken wrist.

Nice, provocative title to get us wound up! The article says nothing about car drivers but it does prove one thing....that rider is..

Dumber than a box of hair.
Doesn't have all his cornflakes in one box.
The wheel's spinning, but the hamster's dead.
Couldn't pour water out of a boot with instructions on the heel.
He fell out of the Stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down.
An intellect rivalled only by garden tools.
As smart as bait.
and my personale fovourite..Proof that evolution CAN go in reverse. biggrin

Or Nigel Mansell winning the Indycar title with a broken back, having to have fluid syphoned out of his body every time he left the car and being heavily tranquilised before a race to numb the pain, meaning he lost most of the feeling in his lower body. Obviously, he never told the officials because they'd have stopped him driving hehe

Didn't he break several vertebrae in his neck during the early 80's as well?

Hmm, perhaps it's the British car racers that are the most nuts.

Just goes to prove, these days a Race driver (as in car!) would never be allowed to compete like that, they can't be in total control, Shows up differing safety standards.
And another reason I won't Marshal Bike meetings....

Despite the car racers (of which I am one) leaping to the defence of drivers performing heroics with injuries, there's no doubt that bikers are diamond 'ard when it comes to performing with injuries - particularly when you consider how physical bike racing is.

I remember Bayliss at Brands a few years ago in WSBK. Xaus, his team mate, crashed into him in the warm-up and Bayliss was in so much pain from the ensuing fall that he couldn't even get on his bike - his mechanics had to pick him up and place him on it in roughly the right position. He got two podiums in the races though.

My TM at Eclipse, John Griffiths, used to be a bike racing mechanic. Some of his stories about Paul Lewis (ex-motoGP racer who raced in the UK a few years back) really make you wince. Racing with a broken ankle after a practice smash, for instance.

Yes, bike racers are a bit stupid at times, but their bravery is utterly extraordinary.

Nah the maddest of the bunch must be the long circuit gearbox Kart guys...

I was at cadwell and they were running as well. one of them trashed his kart into the armco in qually.

the kart was buggered, he was a real mess, and could hardly stand.

back in the paddock. they dragged out his spare kart.

two guys holding him up as they gaffa taped his chest to hold his broken ribs in place, and then another two held his right arm out and gaffa taped that up, with blood running down his fingers.

his arm hit the armco and then the side of the kart ( engine etc) mashed his arm...

Turns out he had about 3 broken ribs, arm in 2 places and wrist.yikes

he still finished in the top 6 but passed out when he got back to the paddock, and apparently spent about a week in hospital !!!!

Now thats commitment, random clubby kart race, not of your international highly paid tv coverage event stuff..bow

no I've got a 250gb for messing around with and 15 mins is about all i can do in it without having to be helped out, and thats getting in reasonably fit with no injuries!!!!

IIRC. Yes Mansell broke his back in a karting accident before he started in cars ....

Meh - bones heal, but the adrenalin needs to be satisfied.

I think the both car & bike racers just fear for their championship positions more than anything else & usually try to ride despite injuries to minimise the points loss...but for sure..there must come a time where it`s better to sit out a meeting or 2 so that the injury is not made worse or slow the natural recovery period.

Possible but,

:geek:

He did it when he rolled a Formula Ford at Brands, not sure of the year though. Also, iirc, It was high enough up to technically be classed as breaking his neck yikes

iirc he damaged his back again in an accident at Suzuka in a Williams and was back in the car by the next race.

We should leave Nicky Louda out of it though as that trumps it as far as motorsport goes.

Indeed, or IIRC Steve McQueen racing in Le Mans with a broken leg in plaster which subsequently melted during the race.
