Bruno Senna - potential F1 star on his own merits?

Just been reading a piece in last weeks Autosport about Bruno Senna (Ayrton's nephew), and it would appear that many people around him are talking good things about him. Should be worth pointing out that many of the 'talkers' were with Ayrton in his early days and even raced with him in the form of Gerhard Berger who is keeping a keen eye on the young lad, maybe a slot could appear in a couple of years at either of the Red Bull teams...
Do you think he could shine in F1? Would be fantastic to have the Senna name back, as Damon did it for his Father and Jaques did the same.

Well he is racing for a Red Bull sponsored GP2 car this year, so it would appear he could be being nertured that way. He is a bit good too.Edited by megy on Thursday 31st May 11:23

Yes, but he won't shine at either of the Red Bull team unless speccy Newey produces some speed out of the cars. Red Bull-Renault maybe as a replacement for either of the current drivers.kevin ritson said:
I wasn't too sure when he first started in FBMW then F3. What I didn't realise then (and learnt via that article) is that he stopped karting after his uncle's death and didn't start racing again until those late season FBMW races! Definitely one to watch.
Neither was I, this was his first race at Brands, but he had very little prep time, and certainly seems to have the instinct to race.
My only concern would be whether he can handle the presure of his uncle's legacy. Having said that, truely a great prospect which I will be keen to see develop and see on the F1 tour in the not too distant future.
Perhaps Frank should be looking into introducing him along side niko. Maybe see Williams claw they're way back on to the front row. Just my thoughts though. I doubt we'll actualy see that happen, lol.

Having worked with Bruno last year in British F3 I can honestly say he is a star in the making. Watching him win in the wet at Donington and then at Mugello I had to remind myself that this was a driver who only had two years of racing experience having missed out on 10 years of karting following his Uncles death.
However the thing that struck me the most was the BBC interview he did at Donington when he was asked about the family connection to the circuit. He siad he had watched that lap a few times but he was Bruno Senna NOT Ayrton Senna and while he is proud of his racing heritage he is his own driver.
He was also offered an F1 test which, as reported in the Autosport article, he turned down because he recognised he wasn't ready for such a step.
He certainly has his head screwed firmly on those shoulders and is one of the nicest guys in the paddock.

He's unusually quick for an inexperienced driver. Give him a couple more years and he could definitely be an F1 candidate.
Hopefully - and probably - he will perform better than the two slugs in STR right now, or even the two veterans in RBR.
Perhaps he should consider doing some endurance sports car races as part of his preparation, like the Le Mans and Nurburgring 24hr races. It would help to improve his consistency and give him broader experience.

He's placed 2nd in this year's GP2 series behind former F1 driver, Timo Glock, and ahead of several F3000/GP2 and Nissan/Renault World Series veterans. Granted that this is only after 2 rounds (4 races), but it's impressive for a series rookie.
