I really want to fit the Leven jump start kit (or similar - my mate the recovery guy can probably get the bits cheaper) to the Chim. There are currently 2 thick leads running from the battery, one set run towards the engine, the other seems to run up the side of the transmission tunnel and disappear behind the radio (or at least that's what it looks like)

Questions -

1. Is it normal to have both these leads (I was wondering if one set was already a jump-start extension)

2. How is the Leven kit fitted? I assume just disconnect the battery terminals and add the leads to the existing connectors?

TIA

The Leven kit is very easy to fit (even I managed it. ) The live goes direct to the starter motor , connecting where the lead from the battery connects. The earth can go to one of 2 places , either at the front of the car, which I found very difficult to get at , or on the cross member at the rear of the front offside wheel arch , obviously very easy to locate and already used as an earth. The jump lead connector is then attached to the front chassis cross member behind the radiator , so that it is easy to connect into.

Thanks for the info. I read in "The Bible" that the starter motor is a really bad place to connect a jump lead. Or maybe that was the alternator?! confused Certainly sounds easier than trying to connect directly to the battery.

That would be the alternator as there is the "100Amp fuse" between it and the starter so as soon as you jump start, this fuse will blow, as the cranking current is some 500Amps plus.
Attaching to the starter is fine.
