I would also recommend the CSCC's "Swinging Sixties". I race in the sister series for "Tin Tops" and reckon that the CSCC has just the right attitude to competitors, value for money and providing a good product with good size grids that appeals to all. You'll also be allocated pit garages, where possible, and that does make a big difference to your enjoyment of the day!
The race meeetings are well run, there's no BS or infinite arguments about eligibility and the emphasis is on getting on the grid and having a good time. The class structures are sensible & most people will find someone to dice with.
The 30 or 40 min,1 or 2 driver, race format also results in good value track time & the opportunity to share a car (and costs) with a mate.
Give it ago - registration & membership costs are low so you could always mix and match a few races in "Swinging Sixties" with something else.

It depends if you are after racing against other cars physically or are happy for a timed run on an empty track. I started with trackdays but after a very near huge accident due to an incompetent idiot in my group I've never done another and now prefer sprinting.
I've found a great local club and the sprint events are a great mix of competing and the social side of the day. You don't get much track time but I think its a great day out.
I've also had a go at the other types of events introduced to me by the club which are good fun too!
Find a good local club and I'm sure you won't look back.
