the very essence of german reliability "the porsche"(hope i spelled it right)no fun, no risks,no excitment, just a safe old mans car clad in metalic silver.
but compared with the joy of having a car that wants to kill you in so many new and exotic ways every time you drive it,a car that sometimes wont start, wont steer ,wont stop ,a car that sometimes wont even let you in the door ! you know of what i speak....the tvr.
porker boys ,come to where the flavour is !as put by a cerb owner once " i love to see porsches....from my rear view mirror "
i could go on at length for hours but i think i have caused enough upset for one afternoon, plus i have to get back to work.

There's a much longer exchange going on in the Porsche forum, why not join that instead! You should have posted this rant there anyway, TVR drivers will all agree with you and where's the fun in that??? punch

Sounds like you are just trying to say that they like boring and predictable.. bit of Porsche baiting for a Friday afternoon maybe ..

Personally - it's a bit of a cliche.. and I really must get around to trying a GT3 or Turbo ..

Personally speaking, can someone please explain to me what is the point in owning a Porsche unless you're trying to support German industry?
Is it just me, or do they all look much the same? When I bought my TVR, my neighbour went and bought a Porsche box(ster). He really thought it was something special until we met on the road one day. He lost it trying to keep up taking a bend at speed and flattened the local bollard sideways.
He sold it and bought a BMW 330. Now that's a sad story, but at least he's doing his bit for the farterland!

Mind you, one less box(ster) on the road suits me because when you catch up at speed, sometimes it's quite worrying when, for an instant, it appears they might just be coming towards you on the wrong side of the road. In that respect, I reckon they look a bit like the convertible Ford Ka which has the same forwards/backwards design philosophy. moan

I like to be safe ...
- Always quite a good feature.

I like reliability ...
- Again, quite good, means you can spend lots of time driving.

I like room for the kids ...
- Yet again, handy if you have 'em, means you don't need to leave the fun car at home

I like drab colours ...
- Yeah right, I'm really known for that hehe

I like german reliability.... I like germans!
- er, see above, though most Germans seem ok on the whole.

I like control ...
- I'm struggling to see the down side in most of these points

I like predictable performance ...
- Ditto above. Doesn't mean you can't have fun sliding the back end out, just means it will probably come back in when called.

I hate noise ...
- Air cooled flat 6 and a Danske back box with 84mm outlet sounded quite good actually smile

I hate loud brash colours ...
- You REALLY don't know me do you hehe

I hate style ...
- You're kidding here now aren't you ... classic 3.2 Carrera? No style?

I hate getting lapped by a .... ???
- Dunno, I stupidly put it for sale two weeks before my booked day at Cadwell banghead

I am on my second Griff 500 (a drab yellow) and I cannot for the life of me see what the problem is. They're all frickin great cars! smile

We did. We all tried to agree a time to meet on a track to settle our differences but there weren't many takers. Seem the porsche drivers were all off driving at the time - very quiet anywaysmile

I think this kind of thing is not doing TVR drivers any favours, I personaly drive a Cerbera for probably all the same reasons all you guys own and drive your TVRs.

Have you ever driven any of the 911 range? I have, it was a 1991 RS spec 964, I can see why they are so popular.

Drab colours, hmmmm, so you have never seen a lime green GT3 rS then?

Predictable performance? think if you actually read up on some of the 911 model specs over the years you might be suprised!

You cant knock a brand that has produced probably the most successful sports car for over 40 years which has enjoyed the benefit of ongoing development through motorsport?

I think the only criticism I can make is the 911 is the victim of its own success that they are a very common sight on the roads and people almost take them for granted.

Try driving any pre 933 model 911 at 10/10ths on a greasy track!

Yep ... that's the one yes Even more so now that with the advent of the 996 the standard cars are a lot easier to drive and more comfortable.

I would say pre-996 ... I love the 993s (if you meant the 993 that is) and would dearly love a 993 TT yes

That's the thing ... practically every TVR driver will be an enthusiast.

Whereas there are so many 911s sold that a much smaller percentage will own them for the car's true strengths ... hence, when you come across an skilled and enthusiastic Porsche driver, it all suddenly makes sense wink

Have any of you guys ever come across a well driven GT3 on track? It'd obliterate any TVR that's for sure, if you think otherwise you've obviously never been on track..

Not a GT3 on track but I was not obliterated on this occasion, far from it and that's with a 16 year old 2.9 S3 and these two guys were givin' it the beans

That was a fantastic day, many thanks to Gary for organising it all. Great to meet everyone. Paul, the trip in the RSR was an incredible experience, I really appreciate it thanks.

The drive from -------- was just full on with LincsGT2 filling my rear view mirror at all times. I know I was slower through the bends, but I did have 100kg worth of LeeM3 as a passenger! Only joking, I bow to your superior skills, and Lee's not that heavy. Actually he was a fantastic passenger throughout the whole day, only saw one imaginary braking moment (THAT 930 corner - in fact the council should now name it that).

There are only two people in the world who will know what I mean and find it funny, but when Schumacher crossed the finishing line at Hockenheim yesterday I imagined yellabelly broadsiding it around the final bend behind him. Total respect for what you did in that car, how you kept up with us I'll never know. I've lost count of the time Lee reported "That f**king TVR's STILL THERE!!!!!!!!!".
I thoroughly enjoyed the run out with these three guys they were true PHers.

Drive what you love and love what you Drive biggrin

Actually I did at Abingdon and I was so disappointed. I really wanted it to be the fastest thing there, completely leave me for dust, but it didn't seem much faster.

You mean the new Orange GT3RS at Abingdon, yep I was there too in the flourescent yellow caterham and agree he wasn't fast but that most definitely wasn't because of the car! The fastest car/driver there was Mark in his VX engined Caterham (the grey one, with 30bhp more than me and slicks, that's my excuse for being 2nd fastestsmile)

I've been on track with a few of the previous model GT3RS, notably at Donnington last year, and when well driven they're the only road car that comes close to the sort of times I was managing round there, very very impressive for what I'd class as a genuine road car (where as my caterham is hardly what you'd call practical).

On the other hand in all the trackdays I've done over the last 10 years (including several in a Griffith and then the 2 Tuscans I owned before my Caterhams) I've never seen a fast TVR - sorry but on track (i.e somewhere with cornersbiggrin) TVRs just aren't fast, GT3s and RSs are

I've never been on track, but then let's put this into context.
A quick price check reveals the GT3 as costing around £80K, and the GT3RS as around £95k, some £30k and £45k more than any TVR has done.
At that price difference, they SHOULD obliterate any TVR and that apparent knowledge that they don't (even if slightly quicker) is what actually annoys the Porsche guys. smile
