Got a phone call from a mate last night wanting to show me his new car.Anyway he brought it over.A very nice black XKR.From looking at it first off it looked non standard.Although it was sitting on 20inch Detroits with the full Brembo brake package, the car sat a lot lower than standard.Turns out its had a few tweaks by Paramount performance.Lowered suspension and the blower has been tweaked a bit to give it 450bhp.Out on the roads the power delivery was brilliant. The surge from hitting the throttle pushed you right back in the seat.Going in to a fast bend and there was no hint of any roll.Unlike what i experianced at Brands on wednesday. The sound from the quad exhaust was awesome.Although at times at normal speeds the sound did seem to drone a bit.But then ive experianced this before with sports systems fitted on autos. And this is where my only critisism of the car lays.As with all modern electronic controlled gear boxes. They are caught out very easy when you give it instant throttle. There were a few times that when i gave it instant throttle there was a delay while the electronics worked out witch gear to select. But on the whole a brilliant car.Im in the market for a new shape RangeRover at the moment to replace the existing one.Im going on a driving holiday next year to the Algarve.Might delay the RR for a bit and try one of these.smile

How much did it set him back for the whole car plus tweaks?

He bought the car as it was.W plate paid £22,000.From a specialist. Its over the odds. But i suppose the Paramount aspect bumped the price.

You should drop J_S_G an e-mail.
He went from a Cerbera to a Tuscan to an XKR (to an Aston to a T350, if that tells you anything!).

IIRC he enjoyed his time with the Jag., but found it a little too <ahem!> sensible!!!

The XK is certainly a car that caught my eye a few times as a more sensible option when I was looking for a Cerb, pretty car and can look muscular with decent wheels etc - autobox was the biggest of the drawbacks, glad I didn't go there but I can certainly see the appeal.

That was one of the biggest drawbacks the autobox. But i was very impressed with the performance.A lot better over the naturally aspirated XK,which i have drove many times. To be honest this particular XK felt like a drivers car and not remote in the slightest.thumbup

I know what you mean but bit of a catch 22 isn't it. Am guessing there is a fancy paddle shift in the newer ones, might go some way to compensate.
