I remember seeing a very expenisve one in the classifieds a while back, can't remember the power, but it was huge, the car was half green and half orange, with a zip down the middle, if i find it i'll post a link

There was some discussion on blatchat here: http://213-04.com/T.asp?id=130612

Claimed power was 316bhp from a heavily modded VX engine.

0-60 2.5s.....

It was certainly fast, but it seemed to be very fragile as a result.

There's at least one with an RST V8 in. Not sure on spec, but it'll be somewhere between 320bhp and 400bhp I believe.

I also believe the Duratec's been taken up to 350bhp recently, but could be wrong.

I'm still not convinced that this level of power can be deployed effectively by a Caterham chassis. Unless you enjoy wheelspin in 6 gears.

Frddy Kumschick (spl?) in Switzerland made some turbo powered Sevens in the mid 1990s which delivered up to 400 bhp. They were fully sanctioned by Caterham.

Apparently there's a guy in one of the South-East clubs with a 300bhp BTCC (possibly Vauxhall) engined car.
Could well be the one at the top of the page. That sounds mental enough for ANYONE!

Well, just got back from Donington. Caterham were doing some demo laps in their new toy - a 330hp, supercharged Duratec CSR. Apparently it's a one off built to celebrate the Jubilee... but I'm sure they could be persuaded to let you have one if you really really wanted one..!

The X330 will be a production car, currently at 330bhp from a super charged 2.3l Duratec but that will easily make 400bhp if the chassis can handle it.

Danny on Blatchat has a 300bhp NA Duratec in his R500 and I'm about to fit a 280bhp NA Duratec in mine, will let you know how it goes smile

Thought for a minute you were talking about Arnie Webb with all this talk of a BTCC engined car but then I saw that the figure you quoted was only 300bhp. Arnie's has at least 550 bhp,so I'm given to understand...

Someone who should know told me that Caterham have some independent guy build all their Duratecs - is that correct Mike? I was told his name, something like Adrian???? but didn't recognise it and thus let it slip forever from my consciousness...

Very unusual and impressive if so, assuming it's not an optimistic dyno! I see it will be at Spa with BaT later this year - should be interesting!

Danny

I think the two Steve's mapped it so it's probably reasonably accurate, must admit I didn't know Paul had increased the power, last time I saw it, it was around 270 and I thought I had caught up smile

Maybe he just got it rolling roaded somewhere else? I'll ask Steves about it next time I'm there - true 300bhp VX's are a very rare thing according to them! Though claims are common.

Knowing Paul, I don't think he's one to exagerate, he does seem to have a 'substantial' budget for his sevening smile
