On Thursday I parked up at some local shops and all was ok. Upon leaving the shops the brake (!) warning appeared on the LCD display along with the warning sound.

Checking the dash the read (!) symbol was lit as if the handbrake was on but it wasnt. The brakes worked well, I checked fluid and everything was spot on. The car was turned off for a few minutes whilst doing basic checkes and the fault appeared to disappear.

I then drove off and it would come on then clear then come on and stutter, as if it was warning again and again or a new alarm was overwriting the previous one. It certainly seems like a sensor fault of some kind.

After spending an hour in the pub (drinking Cola) I return to teh car and the fault has not happend since.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? I am assuming it is linked to the parking brake sensor as during the time the fault was happening if I took the hand brake off the (!) red light would not go away

Over the course of the last year I've had a variety of annoying alarms from check engine, brakes and oil service required all false alarms sometimes 2 or 3 times a trip. Whenever I've had them checked out its always the same story, "no fault found". They have settled down lately although I still get the occasional check engine after restarting hot off a hard run. My guess is the warning system is just a tad temperamental to say the least.

the mil light should leave a code, are you taking it back to a garage where it was modified?

The brake light left no diag code though...

Modified? no mods yet I'm afraid frown And whats a "mil" ??? None of the warnings left any fault codes which was why the dealer said nothing wrong.

A faulty brake light on mine throws that problem. Could be that the bulb was loose or something. Possibly..

I had mine throw a brief wobbler where is said the ABS was faulty and disabled the T/C and ABS. After a restart is was fine and it's not happened since.

hmm this was different as it just was the (!) red light and same symbol on the LCD. It was as if it was something loose as it was happening repeatedly before the previous cycle had finished
