Hi all,
Just been reading through all the posts, very interesting.
I have just been stopped by a couple of rozzers in a marked estate on the m1/m6 junction. I passed them a few miles back following the flow of traffic at around 75 mph, they where doing the norm of 60-65 mph. I kept an eye on them as they dissappeared from view all the traffic speeded up again to about 85 mph. A mile or two later i arrived at the m1/m6 turn off, unusually it was clear of traffic so a had a quick burst upto about 110 mph slowing back down to 90 as i got round the slight left hand bed.
looking behind in my vibrating mirrors (on a bike of course) i could see a white car approuching at speed, so i pulled over to the middle lane still slowing as there is a junction onto the motorway just ahead. you can guess what happened next, pulled to the hard shoulder back of car job.
The officers first words where, is your vehicle taxed?, to which i replied of course, and after rigorous inspection by one of the officers he explained that it had shown no road tax on the vehicle check.........maybe why i was followed.?
One officer cautioned me and told me i would have to produce documents at local cop shop as i had none on me, i gave him the location i wished to go and any distinguishing features. Then he tells me that because i was travelling in excess of 100 he had no option of giving me a fixed penalty, fair enough, a verbal nip followed, and the signing of a document.
I then asked if they had recorded me, they had and then showed it to me. All you could see of me was as i was heading around the left hand bend and i disappeared from view, the car doing about 85 mph at this point accelerated up from 85 mph to 135 mph then had to brake sharply back down to 90 to avoid hitting me. I would say i was out of view for a good 5 seconds or so, and when they cought up i was at around 90 mph slowing down.
They then gave me the speed kills speech and sent me on my way.
Only later did i realise i was not given any paperwork at all and not told of what speed i would be reported for?
Surely in order to produce my documents i need something to tell me to do so?
I hold my hands up and have no excuse for my speed other than a frustating 25 mile ride being cut up, intimidated by other road users, and a very tempting open road on a fine sunny morning, so i will plead guilty as charged your honour.
Advice please,
Do i need to produce of not ?
What speed do you think they report?
Thanks

Hard cheddar, old bean; we've all been there and nobody can sensibly accuse you of being reckless.
(Well actually they can and will and clearly do - but that doesn't stop people who like going fast empathising together!)
Try a Bristol. I'm sure I heard somewhere that plod doesn't look twice at you in one of these unless you're doing over 150 mph...

Just for the record, Hort/1 forms are not always given out at the scene.
Obviously in your example then it should be 99.9% of the time but sometimes you are distracted etc etc and as a result it is sent through the post. (Didnt discredit my evidence).
Other times at the scene of serious collisions where a motorist is too seriously ill to speak to Police at the scene then Support Groups will send out the requirement to produce.

Sounds like "continuity of evidence" is a bit shakey. I'd bet that you could get away with this one, especially if your plate can't be read on the video -- could have been someone else, and you only just joined the motorway. Think carefully, were you passed by another "speeding" bike???!
Depending how you word it, you could get off by writing a nice letter to CPS... or have I missed something?

Have a surf about www.pepipoo.com. They have loads of good stuff on video evidence. I wonder if it will be possible to request the video, i.e. can they delete it after showing it to you?
I would also been making a complaint about the cop driving at 135mph, was it totally necessary and want carnage did he cause?

Pepipoo site is even more interesting, i will definately be sending off for my video for analasys if the 'estimated' speed they quote is too high.
I wouldn't mind seeing it on a decent screen, their mini lcd is a joke, even more so the 1960's phone on a rope
......contemperise man.
They got a nice clear view of my reg as they nearly ran into the back of me. The speed they did was a lot higher than me but the same circumstancies apply, i.e. clear and bright, dry road with no other traffic, so no real danger.
Can't believe i am sticking up for them
I have a distinctive helmet and bag which stayed consistent throughout, plus a very large legal plate as i kept getting pulled with a mini one.

Finally got my summons this morning, and finally found out what the speed was....110MPH
Judging by other posts i assume even if i fill in the plead guilty without attending court i will be forced to anyway, is this correct?
On the speed report form they say my speed was checked by speedometer from ebox 3296A to ebox 5327A, what is an ebox?, for a distance of 1.7 miles.
From what i remember of the video, they where accelerating throughout until they cought up with me, don't they have to be travelling at a constant speed?
Also in the final section of the form it has a line,
Verbal notice of intended prosecution given yes/no by:..... time/date.....
This has not been filled out, can they fill it in later? Do they normally keep the in car recordings?
I think the speed they came up with was just a guess on their part, i would say my average speed was lower.
Do i have a case, should i contact a solicitor?
I know i was speeding and fully accept that, but i am now looking for damage limitation.
I don't need the bike to travel to work at all and the fine wouldn't really bother me just the insurance hike.

Sounds very much like your actual speed is very much at issue because they must have been accelerating hard to catch you. However, with two of them in the car as I understand it, they can accuse you of speeding just from their "skiiled" observation. I think you need to read www.pepipoo.com as previously mentioned and ask for the video.

What is an ebox? Sadly I don't know, maybe one of the BiB on this board can help us with that one. However, I notice that almost every motorway and A road (even B roads near me) have some strange tarmac patches every mile or so. These patches come in pairs and are normally a 2m by 1m section of tarmac differing from the surrounding surface. These pairs of patches are usually in each lane of traffic, I have seen them in just lanes 2 and 3 on the motorway.
I wonder if the things that I've seen in the road are in fact the eboxes you speak of. I somehow doubt it as I've seen these for about 5 years and I've been speeding over a number of them and I've never been stopped.
Am I talking out of my arse? Are there any BiB around to clear this one up?
Another great use of public money.
Another alienated member of Joe P's swelling army of dissenter.
I wonder, despite occasionally defending the BiB myself ito 'just following orders [mein Herr]' whether they wouldn't actually garnish more respect and support if such minor transgressions were dismissed with a quick word and a several minute chat along the lines of "so what'll she do wrung out then, Sir?"
The actual act of bringing prosecutions is surely in their hands and by turning a blind eye in such matters (when we all know the NSL is bollocks anyway), what actual damage would be done.
Isn't anyone worrying about the increasing criminalisation of otherwise perfectly decent individuals?
(I'm limiting such notions to those all too rare moments of empty or virtually empty open roads and m-ways.)
So sorry to hear about this: fingers crossed for a nominal slapped wrist.

First of all i would get legal advice because at that speed sadly, you are looking at a ban.
You can plead guilty by post but the chances are that the Magistrates would want to see you in person to impose a ban.
Best advice is to turn up at Court and say exactly what you have said here.
'I was speeding but i dont think that i was going that fast'. A Newton trial will then take place to determine if your speed was that high. However, if the Police tape is as it should be (accurate and clear) then sadly you are in the hands of the Magistrates which in my opinion is worrying at the best of times.
Secondly, the Eboxes that you are referring too are Emergency Motorway Phones.
There are numerous ways of using the Police Pilot/Vascar Speed detection devices. You are correct in what you say as there is a mode whereby the following Police car keeps a constant distance either to the front or to the rear.
Whilst on Motorway patrol, if you see a car come hammering up behind and when they are 50m away they brake back down to 70mph, you can let them pass, put them on the Pilot/Vascar and let them get out of sight. They will then no doubt speed away again and after a while you can catch them up, take them off at a set point along with yourselves and then you have their Average speed.....not the fastest and not the slowest, but the Average over that defined distance. This is just another way that the device can be used.
Hope that this helps.
Fook thats Scarey Tony, a number of times I have slowed down for a Bib car and then accelerated away thinking that I was in the clear once I couldnt see them in my rear view mirror.
Guess the trick must be to accelerate hard away when the Bib have dissappeared from your rear view mirror and then keep the foot planted FIRMLY to the floor, so that you dont catch up
