How cool would you say the Nissan Skyline is?

Hello guys,

I used to really like skylines when i was younger,but now i think that there a bit of a normal japanese toy.

Would you say the Nissan Skyline is still an awesome car or pretty bland.If your rating it on speed you might not want to watch this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAFAKYAQyKU

As opposed to a normal American toy, or British toy, or German toy? Not quite sure what your point is? Admittedly a Skyline wouldn't be my own first choice of car, but I still have a lot of respect for them and certainly wouldn't say no if someone gave me one :P

The Skyline is cool.. No doubt. Comfy motorway cruiser, or ultra fast mutha fooker!!

I wouldn't say it's a cool car. No doubt they're brilliant cars, fast, capable and certainly nothing to sniff at but thy aren't cool IMO. That said, I have a certain soft spot for R32 GTR's. If I had the chance to own one I don't think i'd be fussed about what other people think.

With the R32, there was a 1.8 litre, 91hp version .. ooh, impressive

The Skyline is just a large family car. Only the GT-R is anything special, and then only when tweaked.

Great engineering and brutal looks (again, only the GT-R) buy they leave me cold.

Though GTS-T, GTS25T, GT-T etc are still not exactly slow and have plenty of tuning potential. Non-turbo Skylines are pretty tame though I agree, but hey at least they drive at the right end.

Um. Surely awesome cars can be pretty bland?

Previous model (E39) M5 is a case in point. Bland but awesome.

As for the R34 GTR being cool, well, it's too contrived a shape to be truly cool.

And if it's about speed equaling cool, well, a 700bhp Cayenne would be quick but not cool.

So please rephrase your question.

Its true stock GT-R's arent that impressive they are pretty heavy, and feel even heavier to drive.

For the same kind of money though you can get a GTST up to 450hp reliably with just bolt on mods and stock engine internals, that kind of power and 2wd IS cool

The Skyline is up there with the most tunable cars of all time as well as being a hoot to drive on the road or track and quicker than many supercars.

The OP was asking if they were cool.

Early 70/80's liners are cool in a retro way (like the 240/260z's). Like the Nur editon R34's are cool.

A 91hp, narrow boddied, R32 isn't.

I really quite like the subtlety of R32 GTS-T coupes, in darker colours, google can't find me a good pic of one right now though. Imagine this one, in black, a bit lower, with some nice restrained wheels on it.



GTR's are focussed and serious enough that they'll always be cool. 4-door R33's and R34's are far to big and blobby (R33) or boxy (R34) to pull off any kind of coolness though.

The old KGC10 GTR is most definitely cool. In a similar way to, but significantly more so than an old BMW 'batmobile' CSL IMO. (that may be sacrilege to some on PH though )


I would even go as far as to say that its nearly as cool as a rally-prepped Mk2 Escort


ETA: that was a reply to Bibbs rather than Obi-Wan. Though the nur-spec is nice too

The Skyline is not the fastest production car ever. It's not the best looking production car ever. There are many other cars that have better stats than the Skyline. However, none of that matters, when I see a GTR-R32/34 I see a great car, a car that I would love to own, because I think they are cool I can't say exactly why nor do I think I need to, I just do.
