In the four years I've owned my Chimaera, I've never managed to keep the power steering fluid in the reservoir - the damn stuff gets everywhere, despite multiple attempts by various menders, so I'd like to start again;

- I assume the hose is available from any old motor factor?

- Which car is the reservoir from? Or better still, does anyone make an alloy replacement?

- I'd really like to relocate the reservoir somewhere other than on top of the engine, so if it does leak, the fluid doesn't run down into the valley. But where? (It's a '97 450, serpentine.) There doesn't seem to be anywhere it can go (which is presumably why TVR put it where it is...) I think I've seen them mounted on the front crossmember, but I can't find the photos.

- Does the reservoir have to be above the pump?

[/quote]Yes, otherwise you will get contant air bubbles in the system and exceess noise from the pump.

Hose SAE100R6 is the stuff to use on the low pressure side, 1/2" from the rack back to the reservoir, 5/8" from the reservoir to the pump. For the high pressure feed I went to my local Pirtek and they made up a high pressure hose for me and gave me adaptors to get rid of the banjo fitting (apparently banjos the spawn of Satan in the hydraulics business).

As mentioned the reservoir is fairly generic, its the same a Landrovers (which have the reservoir mounted to the side of the radiator)

I've asked the question about relocating before and while logic says it need to be above the pump to make it self prime etc the Griff owner who has relocated it to the front crossmember says it doesn't cause any issues

Regards
Iain

Are the 1/2" & 5/8" hoses standard? None of the alloy tank manufacturers state what the outlet diameters are....

Yes, 1/2" and 5/8" are both standard sizes of hose. See the Pirtek catalogue http://www.pirtek.co.uk/pdf/catalogue_sections/cat...

With the standard reservoir,if you put it lower than the pump fluid will piss out as the cap is ventedidea
