Need a Tuscan But!!

I'am seriously considering buying a tuscan but reading these posts i am a little worried about these rebuild horror stories is this normal. I must admit i am stretching myself to have one. So dont want massive bills after purchase. Are the worse engine options than others. I am I better of going for a Cerbera. Thanks in advance for any help.
This should probably be a FAQ! Heres a brief answer from a non-owner, going on info trawled from PH -
A number of early Tuscans suffered from engine failures relating to a batch of poor quality parts. The problem was quickly addressed by TVR. Like any performace car, there are sometimes malfunctions (even the likes of Porsche, BMW and Merc have their fair share - I speak from indirect experience).
TVRs are very low volume production cars - problems can get blown out of proportion - and the majority of Tuscan owners seem to have escaped the rebuild issue (see here www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=38571&f=5&h=0 for a list of trouble free PHers).
If you're buying new you get a 2 year engine warranty, which can be extended. Secondhand, a dealer can provide a warranty, privately you can also purchase them. One independent dealer told me 10 days ago that he would not stock older Tuscans because of the engine issue, whilst my local main dealer has several in their showroom right now - opinions differ.
The main thing to bear in mind is (when buying secondhand) is buy from a dealer or get it thoroughly inspected by a TVR specialist.
I'm still working my way toward Tuscan ownership - 12 months of avid reading of PH has made me only more determined that I need one ASAP!

Please do not get scared by Speed Six problems you have heard of. My dad received his brand new Mercedes-Benz CLK 270 CDI 3 weeks ago.... it broke down suddenly on the M77.

Forgot to mention:
my dads car is brand new, not been near 3000 revs , driven carefully, and it broke down yesterday night; the problem was that the air intake hose for the turbo popped off, at the time it sounded like a tyre had burst.
Most reliable thing we have at the moment is our Sony 30" TV that my mum and dad got as a wedding present BACK IN 1984!!! Still going strong with the clearest picture that puts modern screens to shame!
