Hi all,
Having got through the rear pads and discs at Keevil, and having subsequently replaced them with standard ford parts (money a bit tight), thought I should do the same with the fronts for the upcoming Saturday at Castle Combe. This time I decided to fit EBC discs and red stuff pads to give more resilience on the track. Managed to get them virtually overnight from my local parts place - who even had the EBC catalogue that lists all the Chimaera variations (i.e. both 53 and 58 mm hub heights). The job was very straight forward and completed in 3 hours, but I was pretty shocked at the discs I took off. Having the 53mm discs had meant that the old discs had been "made" to fit by having extra stud holes drilled. Whilst I understand this was pretty standard, the quality of the drilling (oval!!) and the proximity of the drilled holes to the original holes (5-7mm)made me very glad that I changed them. So if you have those 53mm discs, I recommend you check em out and change them asap. BTW the EBC kit including pads was 172 spon , which I reckon was pretty good value.
Safe motoring all and see you at the Combe

I would be careful of your brakes now. Have better than standard on the fronts, with standard on the rear, may well upset the brake balance.

May be better to go EBC all round and keep brake balance.

If you do spin out on track it could well be down to this, so check it out with some others and drive carefully on track.

I would think spinning would come from a systen with back brake bias, anyway, I changed my disks and pads with same size after market drilled/groved disks and new pads, the fist pads I fitted were Mintex Xtreme from and Mintex standard rear, they were rubish!.

Now I've fitted EBC Red Stuff all around and so far it's amazing, although they do squeak a bit at low speed stuff. I'm doing Castle Coombe next month with the Porche 928 club, that should be fun ;-) I'll let you know hoe the pads hold up

Found the brake bias to be very rearwards at Keevil, so the upgraded fronts should make amends for this. I will see how it goes, and replace the rears with EBC kit if required. Thanks for the advice. Once more unto the track, dear friends.....

I have found the brake balance to be very rearwards also. A balance thats too much towards the front shouldnt cause you to spin, will just mean that the brakes are less efficient. Im going to increase the front disc diameter to change the balance to just (a tiny bit) forwards of simultaneous locking, which is what it should be.

If your brakes are rear biased then you would be spinning off at every opportunity. The factory set up isn't "rear biased" but is perhaps "less forward" than your average car (which, for easy handling, is often more front biased than optimal) and so it takes a bit of getting used to. If yours are any more than that then they need a good service. Just my 2p!

Probably causing confusion with bias being "rearwards" expression. My fronts have always locked before the rears, so there was never a problem with overall balance, but I did feel that the rear brakes were upsetting the car just a tad. I will let you know how I get on this Saturday.....Probably be fitting new EBC rears next week!
