Yes, I know, another bloody tyre thread. But in mitigation I can't find anything about this in the searches.

So, on with the question:
Has anybody with a pre-cat tried 225 tyres on the front as usually fitted to a car with PAS and what did you find?

Yes,but on 16's. Not sure if that makes any difference.
I run 225/45's Toyo's
No problems at all, can be heavy to turn when parking but not too bad....

As an aside , have you seen the spider conversion kit on fleabay????

I have 225/45ZR16s on the front and 245/45ZR16s on the rear of my 4.3 - have to say I don't notice any great difference from when I had the original spec 215/50ZR15s on the front.

Agree with Jay, I did not notice any difference - running 225/45/16 Falken on the front.

There is a chap in Herts/Beds region with 225/50/15 on the front of his Griff (toyos) with no probs either.

Had 225 on my 4.3, tended to wander across white lines, very heavy when parking

I fitted 225/50s on the front of mine and they rubbed on the protruding section of the battery box on the passenger side. There is a school of thought than conculudes that the PAS cars have a wider steering lock which prevents this issue.

In fairness I cant recall seeing an early 'battery box style step' that had not been abused by any known tyre biggrin

Mine came with 215s on front oem and was all but indrivable - it darted every which way but straight - put up with it for years until i was told they fixed the prob by going up in depth so to speak and down to 205 - transformed - bliss - just as i imagine an Elise to be, tracks fast curves as if by telepathy and delightfully light until loaded up.

I imagine 225s to be absolute swines when parking in a tight space, let alone yearning for the hedgrows when a road crown is present on a back road

As far as i am aware it wasnt re-tracked but cant be sure - wouldnt be keen to change back - rear of car is loose enough without increasing front end grip?

Younger brother has 225/50s on his Griff 500, but is having a major problem sourcing new ones, (though he is down in Penzance, so the choice I'm guessing isn't exactly wide).

I've searched through all the links online, but can't get the tyres he wants, and he's been told that the Toyos he can get aren't insurance approved.

Anyone got any god sources for tyres??

mmm, pretty mixed bag that which I wasn't expecting.

I'm currently running SP9000s on 205/15 but have never liked them. Bought a pair of S03's but they are 225/15's. Think I might just chuck them on and see how I get on with them.

Baretti

I'd be more concerned about the SO3 bit than the 225 bit - not a good tyre IMO.
