My car is a 2002 Boxster S. The red light on the central locking switch on the dash stays on and the locking system is doing odd things!! When I lock it with the remote key the horn sound twice and according to the manual it is telling me I have a fault. I have also discovered that sometimes it is not locked and also if I have the hood up the drivers door window does not drop down as it should when opening the door. Not good!! when I try to close the door the window is too high and I have to push it under the plastic hood trim to close the door. The car is booked in with my local specialist next week I would like to take it there armed with a bit more info!!
Has anyone on here had a similar problem or got any idea what the proiblem could be? Thanks

The only problem i ever have is if i leave the centre compartment open it sounds the horn when locking the car because it senses when the doors are open including the front bonnet, rear boot lid, glovebox etc. Wish i could be more helpful..

I assume that you've checked that all the lids are closed (inc. the locking center console cubby-hole thingy)!

Don't have a boxter, but my alarm/locking/windows play up when the battery charge is low. Has it been sitting idle for any length of time? Might be worth sticking it on a charger overnight and getting the garage to check the condition of the battery when it's in.

As far as I know the car is bone dry as it does not go out in the rain but I will check. Common for water to do what?? It sits in my garage plugged into an Accumate (is that the correct spelling??? )so I know the battery is A1. I think it is a senser fault on the drivers door because of the problem with the drivers window. Having said all this I have used the car today and it seems all ok banghead

I had a similar problem for the entire time that I had my 02 Boxster S. Double horn sound every time I locked the car.

After some investigation at my local specialist I was informed that one (or more)of the sensors had gone and that the only way of telling which was to plug it into the laptop at an OPC or hours and hours of trial and error replacement of sensors.

Decided to live with the honking in the end.

There was never a problem with the car being unlocked though. I regularly pulled the handle after locking it up to check.

Hours and hours of investigation....???? the tester will tell you what sensor is tripping the horn...either ...the bonnet/doors/boot is open or the glovebox/centre arem rest is not down or it has a non factory fit radio installed and a modification has not been carried out to the radio sensor...

15mins to diagnose.

Thanks Mike thumbup that makes me feel a whole lot better!! I hope you are right and it can be fixed without too much aggro and expense. I sold my Griff 500 and bought a Boxster to avoid the electrical gremlins and all the other TVR quirks. Fingers crossed I can get it sorted at my local specialist.

A double horn beep signifies a door lock fault - usually the passenger side 'secured' or deadlock function.

If the window drops when you pull the door handles but once the door is opened and the handle released goes back up, there is a fault with the microswitch in the door lock - it basically doesn't differentiate between door open or door closed (failsafe is closed). If its sticking the fault will be intermittant. New door lock.

I had this when I forgot to secure one of the lines on the hood when checking the power steering fluid. If you've been into the engine compartment recently, worth checking them both.
