996 Short Shift upgrade

Looking at some of the online parts sellers it's almost like the 997 short shift kit fits the 996 and this is now the best option. I asked my local OPC and they said that the official part has a different part number for the 996 and the 997. Can anyone help me understand what I should be ordering?
