Thinking about buying a Boxster bu not sure what to look for. Will probably spend around £16K give or take.
What are the running costs like and what sort of mileages are the engines good for?
What sort of Insurance costs would I expect? I am an old bu$$er at 50 with 3 points and a company car driver since 1990.
Are Boxsters ok for amateur track days?

16K should get you into a decent 986 2.7.

Running costs: 2K per year if you maintain a warranty. If you do trackdays allow a little more. You could forget the warranty and service the car at an independent and get your bills below a grand a year but you'd be taking a punt on nothing serious going bang. And, sad to say, sometimes this happens.

There are Boxsters out there getting to 100,000 miles and ten years old, now. But unless they've been crashed they're still running so who can tell how much further they'll go?

Insurance? I pay £500 a year. (986 Boxster S) Which is more than I need to because I have track day cover thrown in. Performance Marque are the people to talk to. A Manning being the excellent competition.

A Box is brilliant fun for track days. I used to track mine a LOT but that's taken a back seat this year for one reason or another. the Porsche Club Days are good value as my insurance is free for those. The Box will not be one of the "quick" cars on the day but there's been more than a few 911 drivers surprised by the bright red car they can't quite shake off winkbiggrin The handling is brilliant - both grippy and friendly. Straight line grunt isn't its forte, mind, so you'll have to make it up in the corners - which is the fun part anyway...

Oh...my insurance. I'm 42 and have 3 current points and 3 points in the dim and distant that don't count anymore. £500. Bargain.

Agree with all that Don has said.

Save that mine is a 2.5, I've not tracked it, and at 30 my insurance costs about the same, clean licence, Suffolk.
