hi again all
found out the problem with the tapping and you were right it sounds like the chain and tentioners have gone.
been quoted 700 to sort it but being the mad man i am i think i might try it myself.....
still trying to get my hands on a work manual if anyone can help

i had my chains done for £250 plus parts
but you can do it yourself as long as you get the timing correct when putting back together (can be a sticking point)please note that there are two types of upper tentioner the early type (like your will be as is a coralldo)and the later type(witch is better,but can be fitted to early engines as long as you use the later hyrocilc tentioner bolt)

i know of a place in stoke thats good also for vr6s

no thats way to far for me but thanks mate.
just about to take the gear box off now but just waiting to find out which way i take the bits off it like the linkage and the hydrolic part,
any one help mw with this
