Driving to work on the motorway the passenger side head gasket let go.

My question is I have been told its an engine out job and you should replace both head gaskets so we are looking at a potential 1-1.5k bill!

I have looked in there and I reckon there is a good couple of inches at the narrowest point between each head and chassis rails, surely you can get away without removing engine?

frown Gutted for you, it may well be an engine out job but I've never had to do/have done any head-related work on my Subs. Cambelt and clutch at the same time on my old Legacy it was cheaper to do it engine out though, the motors are easier to pop in and out than most.

I guess an inch or 2 may not be enough clearance as you have to worry about studs/bolts etc not just the head. Not really sure though.

Soz but you need to take the engine out, should be more like a grand though.
