High Mileage Maserati - 4200 - Help!!!
Discussion
Folks I’ve just been looking through the ads and noticed a few 4200’s around the 30k mark, I have a few questions: -
1) What is considered high mileage for a Maserati??
2) How reliable are they on a day to day basis?
3) Is there a buying guide anywhere on the web??
Many thanks in advance…….

I've seen a few advertised with 40k-50k on the clock. The 4200 was introduced in '02 so the early models are around 5 years old and if you take 'average mileage' then the aforementioned figures make sense. However, many owners do far less miles than that on an annual basis - buy on condition.
I use mine almost every day, I've managed around 2k miles in 12 months and had zero problems (FYI - it's a manual so the gearbox is more ameanable to heavy traffic than the paddle 'box).
Take a look a MaseratiLife on the web - there is a U.K.-based version and a more U.S.-centric version. Both have good info on the marque. You certainly want to get the vehicle checked over by a specialist before committing to a purchase.
If you get serious about wanting one (any you fancy a manual as opposed to paddle-shift), drop me a line as I'm due to change mine over the next 6 months anyway.
Good luck.

Hi Bing,
Well, mine is on a 52 plate, and in the last 20 months, I've driven more than 24,000 miles in it - I intended it to be my daily driver, and it is - mileage now just over 48,000 - fantastic realiability, wonderful car to own...
Mine is the Cambiocorsa - personal preference, but I'd have it over the manual any day....
that said, I'd have a 4200 before most other marques....
Feel free to PM me if you want details of ownership costs etc...
Cheers,
John

Many thanks mate!!!
Speaking to the salesman at Maranello, there are a number of guys that do >20k a year in these cars - from what I have read, the more you use them, the more reliable they are.
IMO, £30k is plenty to get you a 4200 but if you want a post-03 model, you wont be owning one with below average miles (if thats what you want).
Have you called about the pale blue on in the trader? Been for sale for months now...I dont know if milage is putting people off, but IMO (based on research NOT ownership), so long as its well serviced, miles are not a problem.
Cheers

Bing, I guess that I am in the same position as you; really fancy one to use everyday, but seriously worried about the wallet dents ! Normally Iwould buy high mileage to try to duck out of some of the deprecitaion, my wife has an X5 4.4i with over 150K on it, worth almost nothing but totally reliable, (if a little thirsty). Just looking to sell my Audi S4 Avant 2003 with 64K and again offered almost nothing for it. The worry with a higher mileage 4200, say over 10K P.A is that you will never be able to move it on ?
