Check out the test ride options with your local BMW dealer. If your Dad enjoys the bike enough he may well want to purchase one! wink (Then you can buy him the pipe and slippers for his next birthday! laugh)

I would love to basically just buy him a bike, and he has mentioned BMW tourers.

What's a good option ? (apologies for my ignorance)

Cheers,

Many options both new and used.

For new, check out the BMW web site at www.bmw-motorrad.co.uk/uk/en/index.html

For used, I’d suggest the R1100RS/R1150RS as a good, not too big and heavy, bike easily capable of touring. There are more touring and more sports focused options if your Dads prefers. Prices range from just under £2k upwards.

The K1200RS is a good bike, well up to eating miles on a motorway and being hustled around minor roads (relatively) quickly. It’s not a sports bike but, by the sound of things, your Dad doesn’t want a sports bike.

We had one of our group using a K1200RS on a couple of our European trips (check our www.old-gits.org) and he was more than happy with the bike.
