Hi Guys,

Im getting a Murcielago inspected tommorrow at Lambo London with Shaun (inc a compression/leakdown test). The car is a late '03 will 9000 miles, pearlescent yellow.

Ive read about lots of front lifting system being dodgy, plus am aware to look out for clutch/brake pad/disc wear. Plus alternator/water pump belts shredding. Crutially what other big-ticket items should I look out for?

The car is 3.5 years old with just 9000 miles. How many services should it have as a minimum? One 'check' at 1500 miles.... plus what else? Its too early for the 15,000 valve adjustment service, right?

I plan to go along for a hour or so to get a good look over the car myself as well. Can some current/past owners give me some tips of what to look out for?

Any tips would be much appreciate (I have already checked HPI, and other forums to see whether its got a dodgy past etc... )

Reg plate is W14MBO, if anyone knows the car, as its had 2 previous owners...

Thanks for any input however small !

Not an owner Ade, but my 2p worth:

1) Having read Evo, get them to check the hinges on the scoops smile
2) Change the plate - people will think you're trying to be a cross between Jonathan Ross and Sly Stallone and will undoubtedly laugh at you.
3) Take a box of tissues.

Good luck tomorrow wink

Everybody seems to know about the clutch issues but in all honesty, if you're carefull and don't floor the car until you're rolling, clutches aren't that bad at all!! Pre 2005 cars have issues with the central locking, usually actuators or micro switches out of alignment, the throttle bodies need to be thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis (easy DIY job) ss this causes the engines to hunt and the front lifting system's a joke!! Apart from that, speaking from experience, they're a damn good car!! Good luck and enjoy it!! smile

Who cares if they like it?

The wipers wont so much as see a drop of rain, rather Aprov and other Lingerie being thrown across the thing as you drive about.

You don't need to worry about a thing. Sean Knight is a top bloke and knows Murcie's backwards.
The service intevals are 1500/7500/15000 etc. Early cars had a few throttle body issues but thats well known. I should ask Sean to check the car has had all the factory directives carried out - eg extra waterproof seals under the door latches (as water ingress caused the central locking to go haywire)etc. Don't worry about the air scoops that fault only occurs on cars with idiot owners who can't stop playing with them smile Never heard of water pump/alternator issues. Lift mechanism has never given me problems but you must use it regularly.
But like I said, if Seans looking after it you don't need to worry

Ade, congrats on taking the plunge. And watch it Robbo...it ain't sold yet hehe

With my car they did a full open chequebook job at Lambo High Wycombe and it came to 4400 quid, but it went right down to replacement water bottle caps and my dreaded driveshafts as these need a full replacement even if the boot is split it can't bee replaced. I had wipers fail as the front engine compartment gets a bit wet with spray on heavy water and can get into the front electrics but will just cause failure nothing serious, and just had my wipers done under wartranty but it was 700 quid so glad I dodged that one. On that note I'd say the AA warranty has paid much dividends on my car, and has saved me around 5k so far in claims from just general mechanical things. My lifting system has been fine since day one but had a fuse blown so wasn't showing on dash but apart from that all ok. My question would be, if they gave you a full sweep of the car would you get it all done?

Services go as Simon says but I think you'll be onto the 30k service very shortly if it's on early 03 as I've just had mine done and is a Dec 02, but had first 1500miles in April 03 then done annually on the button after that with the according service. This was my only concern and with my car it checked fine but did check 2 others and it had missing ones. I don't get why people spend all that money on a great car and mis-treat it.

I would say brakes aren't great and feel dull under alot of constant use like tracking, but according to Lambo Edinburgh I have 70% left but it still feels dull.

Never had the hunting thing happen to me but sure as mud it will start this week!!

Hope that helps.

Paul

Thanks for the comments Pauli/Inky/Cutey :-) Really useful again! Its a late '03 car, not sure how much they changed throughout this time...?

Anyway, I had the inspection, several thousand pounds of work to do indentified. The owner agreed to drop the price further so everyones happy and the deal has been done and all will be sorted. Just about to go and collect the car now yeeeeeeeeehhaaaaaaa :-)

Thats good what ya know yer getting in thew way of work mate. Also try and get a warranty if ya plan and keeping it long. Maybe Dion or Lambo London can sort that out.

As for 03 cars I think they are the same up til 04 as Simons seems different to mine as his scoops go up when moving upto 40mph but mine do as it says in the book which is when ya move off they will go down. Wish I could get my software changed but Lambo Edinburgh says it's not possible, can't see why.

Didn't know Halfords sold Murci's tho mate? hehe

Get the pics up mate when it's back and all the best with it, you'll love it!

not yet mate, was talking to Graypaul about an LP640 upgrade but seems they sold the car today after offering it to me yesterday! A Murci Roadster is probably the next car.

There is nowt on the market I could replace it with so not too bothered in all fairness if it goes or stays. Just don't know wherether to do this interior upgrade as I got the fuqing stereo for the change over already.

What about yerself? CGT looming?

LP640 great car , worth twice a 6.2 ? Mmm not sure.

I'm warming to CGTs. Dion has just sold a minter and has another one on the go

Have somebody on mine at the moment, nothing definite but is looking quite promising! Spoke to Dion re. CGT quite recently, I was a little slow on the uptake and subsequently missed the car but..... well..... never mind!! smile
