A detector or GPS locator ?
I use a talex lite which is GPS only, is cheap as chips and works well.
Like most of the devices you have to connect it to your pc to update it, which is a bit of a pain.

It does tell you about most mobile camera positions - however as of this april there's now relaxed rules for councils which basically means they can put mobile cameras wherever the hell they like.

It's war out there !

sorry, meant GPS locator. As i thought detectors are or soon will be illegal.

saw the talex light, and it seemed too cheap if you know what i mean....

Origin b2. A bit pricey, but does have a large speed display which is useful with a Tuscan's inaccurate speedo, and various other functions and options to personalise- mine's set to bleep at 80 for example, also can program it to alert for schools and congestion charge zones. Don't know if it's an option or even legal now but there is also a laser detector fitted for mobile cameras, this seems to go off all the time in France(where these are illegal by the way).

I've had two Road Angels and the have saved my license on many an occasion. Just about to change to a Snooper Sirrius now so it can help find my way home as well, when I've got completely lost enjoying a hoon.

I've had a Road Angel (the old version) for three years and have got no extra points in the same period. Could be coincidence.

I had an Origin B2 for some time - it was very accurate but difficult to move between cars (needed to plumb in a second wiring harness) and I got really fed up with it jumping out of its plug-in cradle which really is a weak point.

I've now changed to a RoadPilot MicroGo which I thoroughly recommend. I paid £114. It's quality construction, uses the industry standard Enigma camera database, it's conveniently small but with clear colour configurable screen, and best of all can be transfered between cars in seconds (with its built-in GPS aerial).

I'm no connection with the company just a very satisfied customer.

I have 3 of these, mine, my wifes & my dad. May well get a 4th for the Tiv.
If you're handy with a PC there's also a dodge to update more than one from a single subscription, not that I could possibly condone such activities. rolleyes

I originally used my tomtom with an add in. I got feddup with setting it up every time, so looked for a cheap alternative. I bought the talex lite as a bit of an impulse buy off ebay for £45.
Its very simple but does work very well. Maybe slightly cosmetically challenged, but the function is really all there.
It also gives you a GPS speedo but I guess they all do.
Dead easy to use. You turn it on, Thats it. You can store your own positions aswell if you want.
I virtually never remove it from the car, noone's nicked it yet.
It works with voice prompts anyway, so you could hide it out of view provided it can get a gps signal.
I personally wouldn't want to leave a road angel or one of the more expensive devices in the car, I reckon they are as nickable as a satnav.

New road angel for me....seems to do the trick nicely. Still it didn't save me the other weekend when i breezed past an unmarked fuzz at 95. bums.

Snooper Sapphire in the Griff. Looks great and very nice as its all self contained, battery lasts about 3 hours - bit quiet though with roof down and Offords cherry bomb exhaust on full volume smile

I've got a New Road Angel (as they call it) which is the one with both GPS and Radar detection. The GPS works fine in my Chim but the radar detection djust bleeps constantly which is obviously useless. I've found this info on another thread so may give it a go: (http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=193029&hw=+%2Broad+%2Bangel). Luckily you can turn radar detection off in the menus but this isn't ideal given the recent news on mobile cameras.

Overall, really pleased with it and I think it actually reduces my speed by making me more aware around town etc.
