Hey Ho, everyone is after their pound of flesh these days.

I can remember the days when your car was in the garage they would provide you with a courtesy car. No hassle just shows them your driving licence, sign along the dotted line and drive off.

Then, they wanted you to insure it. So a quick call to your insurance co. Tell them the basic details Job done.

Next the Garage wanted proof: So you need a weeks notice to get a cover note but the insurance companies retaliated with the advent of the Indian call centre that want to know every minute detail of the of the courtesy car. First you have to explain the difference between a hire car and a courtesy car then “I don’t know when it was first registered, It’s a courtesy car I don’t know how many doors it’s got or if its been modified, It’s a courtesy car I’m not buying the dam thing!!!”

My Ro is going to get the handles repainted and the dealer has offered me the use of a Corsa Courtesy car. “You’ll need to insure it and provide proof etc” So I thoughtI’d give the insurance a call. “Yes sir” they said “we can cover that for you” “It’ll be £25.00 per day”

I’m already paying £500 PA. Insurance for the Ro now they want £50.00 for two days in a Corsa!!!!! Are insurance companies that hard up!

I hate to think what the renewals going to be.

How odd is that - mine is going in for the door handles tomorrow ( and a small ball inflicted dent too if I can persuade them they can do it all together).

Pick a Door (name changed to protect and all that) charge me £10 per time now because some people have managed to write off their 1.2 Corsa's.

Not too bad deal but would prefer a car from the VXR range......

I complained about the paint falling off the front bumper. The man from Vauxhall came to have a look and said it was due to stone chips (must be some big stones. Its now the size of a 50p piece and getting bigger). But he did say I could have the door handles done.

I think it depends on the relationship the dealer has with Vauxhall and whether sometimes they take a punt on fixing the customers car and get Vauxhall to pay up.

They may do a little extra and in your case they have the paint anyway - surely there is a deal to be done?

Yes despite the dealer being in walking distance their body shop is in Bedford. I've already been talking to them directly and laying the ground work

I had one of my employees have a third party smash into one of our works Corsa's (new quarter panel, n/s/r wheel, bumper, wheel arch trim) in a brand new Dodge Caliba. The Corsa was in a Vauxhall dealership bodyshop for 5 weeks. We got a courtesy car - new shape Corsa 1.2 and I didn't have to do a thing. My insurance company, told me that my insurance had been temporarily transferred (Fully Comp plus all named drivers) to the courtesy car.

The insurance company (who incidentally share the same name as the manufacturer of the Corsa etc) have been to date, the most efficient company I've ever been with. Thing is, the insurance for this car (1.3 SXi CDTi 2004) is now £930.00!!! Lost all no claims and told on next renewal could be looking at £1K...... SO perhaps they're giving with one hand on the courtesy car but taking back with the other with that nice new premium their offering....

Oh, and that Corsa was back on the road for 3 weeks before said employee opened the door into the path of an oncoming bus. New door, A pillar, o/s front wing and windcreen. Still in bodyshop. 7 weeks now and counting...

Dropped mine off this morning and asked them to take another look at the paint falling off the bumper. I also asked for a quote to cover the stone chips on the bonnet, o/s wing and roof.

The body shop mgr called me with the quote £780-00 yikes and that’s without the bumper!!!. He also explained why the paint is falling off the bumper. Apparently, once chipped, moisture seeps in which then expands and contracts as the temperature cycles separating the paint from the plastic. Moral: Cover a chip as soon as you notice it.

We did discuss the numerous other chips on the bonnet, wing and roof but he seemed to think that the number was not excessive. He was surprised though by the size and depth of them, most of which have penetrated through to the metal, and hinted that the lacquer could be soft. He advised that if I still thought there was a problem I should lodge a complaint with Vauxhall Customer care. Can’t see that doing any good though as the Vauxhall man has already had his gauges on it.

So, I guess I’ll be getting chips away in!

Thats bad customer care from your garage.

Picadors (sorry mods) fixed mine without cost although did quote for some other small things.

Not all garages are the same clearly - very happy with mine right now.
