Have seen this on a number of occasions now - there is a stretch (approx 3/4 of a mile that is a 40mph limit near to my home. The 'plain' Renault Master Hi-roof scamera van parks on the grass verge, approx. nose up to and obscuring the NSL sign, i.e. inside the 40 limit where drivers are gearing up to accelerate on leaving the built up area.

Cash cow or what ???

It does seem like a scam. Then again it you are going from a 40 to a NSL zone, the NSL only applies after you have passed the NSL road sign, so any gearing up should really be done after that point.

Not that I think they should put a scamera van on just the wrong side of the line, particularly on a straight. That's very much below the belt.

Yes, its not just that its inside the line that gets me - its the fact that it is on a relatively clear section whereby there are 2 NSL signs,1 on each side of the road. MoP sees NSL sign approaching and as its a clear stretch, somewhat prematurely increases their speed in readiness to achieve NSL.
BiB sat in unmarked van - the rest you've heard many times.

Sorry but it stinks

But you know the new limit does not apply until you pass the sign, not before it.
It's a simple exercise in restraint to wait until you pass the sign.

We ALL know that, but in reality how many of us actually adhere to it ???
Thats why they're parked there isn't it ??
( Oh silly me, I forgot - they are there as part of an accident reduction scheme)

Must go back in my padded cell, its lights out soon....

If you know it, then do what you should be doing & don't feed it.

I do - but only beacause I am aware of its location - i just feel its a little too close, in an inappropriate position and feel that there is absolutely NO valid reason for it to be there. It is neither an accident blackspot, people have not been killed there for as long as I can recall and i have travelled that road for some 30 years.
But there is nothing that I can do about it, I am merely a 'motorist', an easy target.

There is a perfectly valid reason for it to be there and you know it, £££££££££££.

But when the only point in exercising restraint is to avoid feeding the hungry cash cow, it deems the whole sorry operation to be nothing more than an immoral scam, bleeding the purses of unsuspecting normal drivers passing by perfectly safely and being caught by the bucket load - 100 per hour is not unheard of these days. Not a bad scam £6000 per hour, no wonder they act as above when such rich rewards are available.

You should be obeying the limit at all times, not just at spots that have high collision figures.
The offence of speeding applies where ever you exceed the limit & it can be enforced anywhere.
Don't want to get done for speeding, then don't speed.

If you don't want to pay, then show restraint.
If you speed, then that obviously takes priority for you over the fines etc, so you've made bed and have to lay in it.

I'm all for 'lying in the bed I have made' and taking my punishment if I commit a crime - with points in the past to prove it.
What I DO object to is the somewhat underhanded tactics to 'trap' motorists - they are already an easy enough prey, unlike the uninsured, tax dodgers, drug runners, rapists, paedophiles, etc, etc.
If they are persecuted much more, they'll probably become extinct !!!

Probably what this government want anyway.....

Correct, however, if it was all about preventing accidents, and nothing to do with revenue, then the vans would be sitting in the places where accidents are MOST likely to happen, in the hope they may prevent some. Logic says that if the NSL is only yards away, then it isn't an accident blackspot, and therefore is lower risk than other sites, where they could be making a difference, not making money.

Get real Von! Show me a driver who doesn't speed every day, apart from your good self. None of them want to get done for speeding but they still prefer to take their chances rather than dawdle along at an unnecessarily slow speed for the conditions ie 70 on a motorway. Why do 70 when 80 is fine? I have never driven a single journey without breaking a speed limit and the same goes for virtually all drivers. Don't the scammers just know it too!
