First day of ownership, observations!

Well I finally picked up my 2000 4.0l Tuscan today.
it goes:
brrrrrmrmrmrmrmrmr rraaaaagghhghg pop pop pop fizzzle brrrrrrrrrrrraraarrarraghrhagh!!!
or something like that. Im a very happy bunny indeed.
Just incase you're reading Marcus thank you very much (especially for filling her up with gas, have now used most of the tank!)
Did over 200 miles of messing around and visiting anyone I could, a whole evening of showing off is pretty tiring!
Couple of observations though, is it just mine or is reverse a pain in the arse to get into on others? seems to grind/crunch on almost every occasion, doesnt sound healthy at all. Is there a knack to it?
the Windows have a mind of thier own dont they! Is resetting the window/door ECU a major job?
mines on standard shocks and its not as bad handling as I had been led to believe, she tends to sit down and look skyward if you floor it which was a bit of a shock the first time but other than that steering is direct and it all feels fairly well planted.
The car seems to be fitted with a free heated gear-shift! Im guessing its fairly normal for heat from the box to crawl up the shaft to the knob (said the actress to the bishop) gets pretty toasty, almost uncomfortable after a good thrash then getting stuck in traffic (im guessing there is an oil rad for the box somewhere, no air-flow = hot left hand?)
I've just tucked her up in bed (snug as a bug under her cover) and unfortunatly I have to go to work tomorow and I cant spend all day hooning around the countryside! I did say I wouldnt ever drive it to work but screw it, will be able to do some more showing off and go for a lunch time blast!

Hey Dave, welcome to tus ownership!! you get used to the showing off bit...it never seems to stop even after a year!
Heated gearsticks are norm, the crunch in reverse is avoidable, go into 3rd or 5th first and gently into reverse, most people go 3rd as do I but some prefer 5th. My windows went a bit haywire and it was water in the door mechanism under the silver plate, dried it out and all fixed, but quite often read that a new part is needed from others, not a biggie tho!

I've only had my 2000 Tuscan since December but you will find you learn your cars' querks very quickly.
I go into 5th and then gently into reverse with no problems.

TY for help with reverse will give it a try.
It took me a while to work out what the window/door was actually up to, the passengers side is a little slow opening after pressing the wing mirror button, take 5-10 seconds sometimes. Window will move down, but not all the way back up on closing the door, this means when you come to exit the car the window is left 2-3 inches open (but seems to think it is closed) quick fix is for the passenger to get out first and the driver close the window manually from inside. only prob with this is by the time the GF has collected all her crap (handbags, sunnies, coats, phone, makeup etc) from the dash/footwell/behindseat I have pretty much fallen asleep waiting!! Is no biggie, Its just a nice little quirk!

I realised I have completly missed the point with pretty much all the "fast" cars I have owned in the past, 300zx, M3's, nearly got an XKR or M5 instead of the tuscan!!!.I had always mocked my friends elise as being a big boys go-kart not a proper car. but now I completly see where he is coming from when he says its great. all the noise and what feels like your arse is an inch from the road etc etc. love it!

I think the answers have pretty much been covered. With reverse just put it into another gear first, ideally a lesser used one to even wear, I think its something to do with slowing the diff, they all do it. The window is an easy reset which I never got around too (sorry) if you search on here there was a recent thread (its located under the gear covering in the car and a simple reset will do). As for the heated gear knob again its pretty normal although I still have the gear shift patter berunt into my palm . Dom recons its an easy fix with a new heat washer so perhaps on the next service.
Hope you love it as much as I did and take pride in the fact that it is the loudest and best looking out there IMHO. Take care and happy motoring

Yes I agree with all the answers. Select 5th before reverse, your knob will always be hot in the Tuscan
, and the windows have a mind of there own. Try winding the window down bit by bit and up in the same manner. Also setting the alarm sometimes rectifies the problem.
Just be careful when the GF opens the door from the inside that the window actually lowers slightly. If not although the door will open but when it is closed the glass will hit the side frame to the windscreen.
You will probably experience all kinds of odd things that appear for no reason and disappear again.
You just never know with a TVR!

I really, really envy you having that experience whilst mines is tucked up for the next month or so. If someone can give me a more SATISFYING driving pleasure for the £'sss then I'm all ears.

Just a follow up from my window woes, I found that on setting the alarm the window would not close all the way, leaving anywhere from 1-4" open. However if I unset the alarm again and then set it it closes all the way the second time!
