F355, 360M. Which is the more reliable at 50k?
Discussion
The heart tells me to go for the F355 but the head is telling me go for the 360....
I am correct in thinking that for £50k, because the 360M is a newer design than the F355, the 360M will be more reliable?
but then that means going for an earlier 360M than a latter F355....
The question is asked in the context of a buying a 355/360 for about £50k

Dont forget that even though the early 360s that you may go for will be a NEWER design than the 355. The early 360s will still be 8 years old, the same age as the last of the 355s.
So go with which ever says yes to you, take a couple of test drives of each if possable.

It's also worth noting that cars that are earlier in the model cycle tend to have more gremlins than those that are later. These are usually handled by recalls etc, but there's no guarantee these have been done.
Broadly speaking I'd say that the cosmetic stuff on a 360 should prove more hardy (bodywork, interior) but the mechanicals will be largely the same (i.e. very robust IF looked after).
That said, the 355 cosmetics are easy enough to keep on top of, but you should not aim to skimp on maintenance!

As i have never drove a Ferrari - I am pretty sure a test drive wont reveal a great deal - certanily nothing in terms of comparable differance between the two....
Well ya see that's were ya wrong. The 355 and the 360s are completely different beasts to drive and tame. They both have very distinctive feels to them and one of them will say yes to to, or maybe both will say no and maybe you will look at another model in the same price range like the V12 550,456 and TRs.Regardless of if ya have ever driven a Ferrari or not you will be able to get a good feel as to which suits you.And as you your self said your hart will tell ya which gives you the buzz. My recommendation is test drive them both and if you are decided then get a professional PPI from a ferrari specialist. This is because if you have no experience in buying Ferraris you could be walking into a mine field trying to check one out ya self before handing over cash. Go to a ferrari based forum like www.fcars.co.uk or www.ferrarichat.com and listen to the advice of knowledgeable people. Unlike myself

THere is a HUGE difference between the two. I was extremely dissapointed when I first drove the 355 as the torque is dismal low down and it feels very slow. You need to really rev the 355 to get the performance. The 360 has variable valve timing and although the torque figures are very similar it feels a lot more responsive at low revs.
Definitly go and drive them and you should do it for some time so you can get a good feel. I would also suggest you visit a track day and bum a ride of some of the guys there. This will give you a good idea of what the cars can do and how they feel.
