Hello PHer's,

According to Autocar.co.uk the UK won't be getting the latest Subaru Impreza WRX and STI.
Below is the article:
http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/Subaru-I...

As much as the car is now, butt ugly it is slightly unfair that we don't get the car at all.

The only reason I can possibly think of is that Subaru don't want to sell any more cars. It's the only thing that can explain that Mazda 323 lookalike, and the dropping of 2 very popular trim levels. Just seems bizzare to me, would Volkswagen drop the Golf GTi?

it seems odd to me that subaru are dropping the models that made subaru what they are today.

Maybe they can't get it E marked. That's most likely the problem.

Give them time. They'll bring 'em in.

Or it could be that IM are the biggest bunch of idiots in the motor industry (not Subaru)

The article doesn't say we are not getting the STI.

I understood we were also getting the WRX - but as a diesel.

I dislike Imprezas and Evos immensely, but I appreciate that they have their fans. A diesel is the ideal way to ruin the customer base and revive the image we had of Subaru in the early 90s.

Subaru desparately need a diesel for the Legacy (especially the estate) but a diesel as an Impreza WRX!! Hmm think that they have been looking too long at the Skoda Fabia vRS, which is diesel.

Anyway, is there any news/figures on the Subaru boxer diesel?

Could it be that GM have an influence in this - the Impreza Turbo models will take sales from their Astra VXR, so they're limiting the competition by only letting the UK have base-model Impreza Turbos?

I'm very disappointed the new Impreza has become a small-ish hatch - it always looked best as an Estate, but the sportwagon thing was also quite funky in an odd way.

Diesel is good news, though - a 2lt+ flat-4 diesel has to be a good thing for us company car drivers. But I have a feeling the Impreza is going to be too small to hit my list and the Legacy too expensive.

I thought they did between 1992 and 2005, or does keeping a model or two in the range with the badge count as manufacturing a GTi model?

And how would GM do that seeing as they sold off their stake in Subaru to Toyota ages ago...........?

I thought that the STI is coming to the UK, but in order that the overall CO2 rating of the range as a whole is skewed in Subaru's favour, they did not want to bring in the WRX...? That is what I have heard, but then I was unaware that marques had to maintain their "average" CO2 level above a certain line. How would that affect Lamborghini and Ferrari?

Oh, didn't realise that.

It's hard to keep up with what GM does and doesn't have a part in these days - they seem to buy and sell stuff at the drop of a hat.

Don't think they've been buying much lately......not with their financial situation......biglaugh
Wish they'd sell off Saab though......before they end up killing the brand completely.
