Clutch Hydrolics

This is killing me! Last weekend I finished the clutch upgrade but didn't have time to bleed the hydrolics. This past Saturday I did just that. But I'm still not getting the full 18.5 to 19.5 mm of throw/movement required to release the clutch. I'm wondering if any of you have any little secrets or out of the ordinary techniques for bleeding the system? I've tried it level, with the front up, with the rear up. I've tried pumping fluid through the system and pulling it through the system via vacuume. The last time I did this it was relatively quick to get all the air out of the system. This is a 91 SE with a s4s clutch and yes, I'm using the .70 master cylinder.

Did you try and bleed to the system with the slave unbolted from car and near the floor. Pump the pedal a few times hold it half way down, then the other fellow hit the bleeder nut, before the pedal hits the floor yell out the person operating the bleeder to close it. repeat the process until all bubbles are expelled.

Hi,

Try pressure bleeding the clutch from the slave cylinder. Ace Hardware carries a nice pump Garden Sprayer which is ideal for this purpose. You simply add a correct size piece of hose to the sprayer, remove the spray tip and voila' you have a power brake bleeder for under $30.

Connect the tube of the sprayer to the slave cylinder bleed nipple, pump up the spayer and press the 'trigger'. You will need to have someone standing by at the master cylinder w/ a 'turkey baster' to remove the excess fluid.

This method works extremely well as you are pushing the air bubbles in the direction they naturally want to go - up. Happy Motoring!...Jim'85TE
