I just broke down on the M20, and they were on the scene in less than 5 minutes asking how I was, if I needed help.

Lovely chap, much appreciated.

Just thought I'd post 'the other side of the coin'

Nice, the other side of the coin is rarely seen on here.

I don't think anyone on here has a problem with the actual guys and girls doing the actual HATO job, it's more that the idea is ill conceived and even more poorly implemented (IMHO). And Towie's. And Busa Rush's. And FiF's...

Yes, but what did they actually DO?

My guess is that they just sat there metaphorically holding your hand and telling you that everything would be OK. Labour Government anyone?

He asked if I needed any help. Told me the mile marker board I was nearest to help the AA find me, and reminded me how to keep safe while I waited.

But he could have waited, held my hand and made a cup of coffee. Ungrateful bastard.

Would have been interesting if you had a puncture and had said "yes please mate - give me a hand to change this wheel in order to minimise my "at risk" time on th most dangerous part of the motorway.

Complete and utter waste of time and money. But at least it looks good.

What a fantastic adea. Bin all those ridiculous poseur mobiles that they just "have" to have. Make `em all drive burger vans if it`s cold and ice cream vans if it`s hot. Now that would be worthwhile.

While I thank the OP for his/her kind words, it is unfortunately the kind of example that is laughed about by the HATO antagonists.
It is a part of what we do. A driver with up to date breakdown cover who knows which motorway he's on is easily dealt with. Or it's pitch black and raining and the husband is in tears with three kids out on the hard shoulder with not a clue about what to do......

I like these threads, but they tend to spiral into simplistic repetition (on both sides).

yes indeed.

One could say that about many threads,

fog lights not foggy
middle lane owners club
speed cameras
cyclists thinking they are above the law
drivers who think the same
drivers thinking cyclists/horses/slow moving vehicles have no right to be on the road
40 mph club
tailgaters
civilianised enforcement eg parking that is actually only about the money

I could go on, however there is a common link to all these subjects, they continually cause a heating of the bladder region in a significant number of people because they are sodding annoying. Subject of HATOs is the same, at least to those of us with our eyes open to the wider picture

Personally, whilst I have my two pennorth on a number of subjects, I try to stay objective, keep calm and rely on one of these.....

I give you the BIB Cochrane Wee Boiler yes it really is called that! What better item to find on the Plod & Law forum than a BIB Wee Boiler. How totally appropriate. laugh

Sadly I wasn't able to find a photo of a wee boiler with a conveyor belt in the background, but then that would have been just too perfect!" hehe

Would the wee boil quicker whilst on the conveyor belt?

Sorry, that idea will never fly!!! hehe

:coat:

Anyway...the airflow would cool the wee down, although you may get some residual vapourisation at the surface.

Does it? Well Done. Someone on here informed us that you couldn`t for H&S reasons.

There's the "official" line and the realistic line - like most jobs. You don't want to believe everything I write! And it could be argued that it's in everyones H&S to get rid of the breakdown ASAP.

See - you could have been a HATO! clap

Reminds me of the time it took me 30 minutes to talk a bloke out of a panic attack. A good slap would probably have been the answer.....
