Hi all,
I have a 94 chim 400 and the bottom LED (red) on the main dash, was flicking on and off as i started the car today, if i rev it passed 1000rpm it goes out. It used to go out as the car started. The hand book says its the oil light but i belive it to be ignition light. what do you think?
I did have the alternator off last week (sat)would that do anything? could i have knocked it then? but light only came on today ( wed).

Help, off to le Mans and need to sort it.

Thanks

On a Chim it could mean you have a problem, of coarse it could also mean the teas ready.

What does the oil pressure gauge read
Whenever the red light is on?
When you rev it?
How does this compare to the same readings in the past?
Compare with both hot and cold engine.
Check oil level.
Check for oil leaks.
Have you recently had an oil change? If so, are you certain the correct viscosity was used?
Don't ignore it, or use it until you have found out why.
Get professional help if you can't find it yourself.
The sender, gauge and light use resistance/voltage change. So it could be an electronic problem.
BUT if you have an oil pressure problem then ignoring it will be very expensive.

On my 94 4.0l Chimaera the lower red led inbetween the speedo/rev counter is the battery charge light.
50% of the time if I start the car I get this light on, if I then give it a few revs it always goes out, it's been like this for about a year.
If it stays on it's new alternator time/fan belt, but if it goes out and stays out I wouldn't worry about it. (but if your car dies in Calais it's not my fault) wink

Thanks for the help boys.
Its deff the charge light as ive just had a play with the conections on the alternator and the light is back to norm now clap it goes off on start up.

But there was a mark on the fan belt, would it be wise to change it now? if so where from and is it just a rover V8 belt?

All oil lights, pressures, and levels are bang on.

Raceboy thanks for the kind offer of a lift back from France yes
