The guy nearly loses it a couple of times and is the sort of spanner I want off the road.

Of course he is in Europe so I guess he is already off our roads....but u get my meaning

Proof that having a nice car doesn't make you a skilled driver. People like that want locking up.

/edit: Actually, not just locking up. He wants his ing hands and legs chopping off so he never drives again. What a tt.

That is of course totally unacceptable.

However, bad lane discipline exacerbates such behaviour. In some cases he wouldn't have been able to weave if everyone had been over to the right like they should have been. Once or twice people were deliberately blocking him to "make a point", which is only going to make things worse. Anyone driving defensively would have done their best to let him past quick smart. It looks as though lane-hoggers are just as prevalent in CZ as they are here.

But trying to force one's way through the smallest gaps in solid traffic just beggars belief. As others have pointed out, scameras are never going to stop such behaviour, and no amount of automated enforcement ever will. As usual, traffic police are needed. Perhaps in instances like these, we need unmarked vehicles which turn a blind eye to safe speeding, and only deal with proper offences like that shown (and shoddy lane discipline for that matter). We need enough cars to mean that someone driving like a nutter for as long as he did is likely to be caught.

So your quite happy for people to do this, as long as they are punished afterwards? I, on the otherhand, would prefer a lot more marked cars about, to prevent it happening in the first place. Prevention has got to be better than punishment.

You know a lot more about police methods than me, but surely they don't have to follow him "like that", they have blues and twos and other police up ahead (or at least they could do if money was sepnt properly)?

The most worrying thing to me was the comments in the video imply that he thinks that was *good* driving!

In this case they could have used the hard shoulder, assuming he refused to stop. If not and it really is that dangerous, they could follow as fast as they could and call the chopper, stop the traffic further up, etc. Standard TV programme stuff. And of course they've got their blue lights to assist them in getting through. Trafpol are trained to follow people in such situations, surely?

I can see where you're coming from, but the fact is that this sort of thing does go on where there are (apparently) no police cars. As you've said, marked cars prevent it. To combat the behaviour the perpetrator needs to be caught in the act. "Letting" them do it once by having an unmarked car will hopefully prevent them doing it many more times than once in the future. Here, I think enforcement is better than education/engineering (perhaps educating such people with graphic videos would help, but they would need to be made to view them, so enforcement is still necessary....)

Von is probably going to throw this back in my face with "Why shouldn't we have hidden scams then?" I'll let someone else argue that point. wink

Would you consider the proliferation of HATOs to be a benefit from this point of view, given that so many MoP can't seem to be able to tell them apart from Police?

That was absolutely mental. He and the other drivers were very lucky, with all that diving in and out for overtakes and everything else.
Also the comments and the fact that he recorded it show that he obviously thought it was good.
And the 330d isn't exactly a "slow diesel car" either.

Blimey, that's worse than UK lane discipline, so many outside lane hogs and MLM's, whilst lane 1 remains mostly unpopulated. Then again, is it worse than the UK? scratchchin perhaps not.

I've always found a lot of older Czech roads to suffer from ruts caused by HGV's, hence lane 1 can be a thoroughly unpleasant place to drive.

IMHO the most appalling thing in this vid is the absolute absence of policing throughout. THAT is the worrying bit, which allows to***rs like this to continue on the roads.

Now, would it been interesting if any of those lorries would have slammed their brakes just before ths idiot overtaking...

Correct. For anyone who thought the video in the OP was bad, check this biker out: (Ghost Rider - Upsala Run)

I was amazed that the Czech Republic had tarmac roads let alone a motorway smile
