Guys,

I was overtaking yesterday and had the car on the redline by mistake, straight away the engine light came on and I was reduced to either 3 or 5 cylinders with a reduction in power. 20 seconds later everything was back to normal.. not had it since and drove the car hard to test last night. I've had the car two years and never experienced anything like it...

I am concerned as I am going away for the weekend, trip is over 300 miles and don't want any problems.

BMW said this can happen to a coil, then it basically cleans itself and returns back to normal... sounds like a lot of bull to me??

Is ths car ok to drive like this for 20 seconds or so, or should you shutdown straight away?

I'd get the car onto a diagnostic computer to see what it logged that happened.

Could potentially be a number of things, co-incidental or related to your bouncing the limiter.

Coils, crank sensors, throttle position sensors etc. might be suspects.

Well 350 miles later and no repeat on our weekend away... 34.3mpg too... not bad from a supercharged engine smile
