I can't beleive i've done just under 11'000 miles of faultless motoring and a few weeks ago i started experincing the VTEC cutting in and out under heavey cornering. So I booked in with the local dealership and took the car down this Saturday and set off for a test run with the engineer so he could experince the problem first hand - naturally like everyone else i've consulted drew a blank and we returned to put the car on the diagnositic thing. Just as we are approaching the dealers I started hearing a loud tapping noise at anything above 3k rpm and we limped onto the forecourt. No warning lights - just tapping. (

They then roll the car into the garage and leave me bitting my nails in reception and with 2 sips of shite coffee the service mgr reports the bottom ends gone, WTF how could this be.

Also they have questioned the HKS filter which may invalidate the warranty, where do i stand on this one and has anyone had a similar experince.

Any advice welcomed

One fed up CTR owner.

Strictly speaking, they could indeed invalidate your warranty because of the filter. However, a decent dealer will fight your case and I have heard of S2000 owners having their engines replaced even though they allowed the engine oil to get to low during the first few thousand miles.

I think that you need to have a chat with the service manager and see what he thinks.

Hi Guv,

Not sure if you're already on it, but you might want to scoot over to the CTR Owners Forum at www.civictype-r.co.uk and post the dilemma on there. You never know, might get you somewhere.

HKS filter?

Oh dear.

I've been warned to avoid them as they're big on airflow at the expense of being crappy on filtration.

If the fault was caused by a foreign object getting throught the filter, Honda are well within their rights to refuse to fix it.

If it's something else, there shouldn't be a problem.

The GT4 is getting a TRD filter. Toyota can't complain then.

See the bright side, if they wouldn't fix it under warranty it will cost a lot.
If so we'll help out a fellow PH'er and fit some high lift cams, make a 250bhp motor for the roughly the same price ? ( We have just built some for racing in a Caterham and kit car)

Is the HKS filter for the CTR the same kind of Oily Sponge that the Scooby one is?

With the Scoob, you have to be real careful 'cos the oil can contaminate the MAF sensor and cause the car to run lean.

A known problem in Subaru land, I hope it is different for you

Not just in Subaru land, VWs suffer from the same problem, but it seems to be isolated to the forced induction engines (i.e. G60 and 20vTurbo). Does forced induction make a difference, I assume there is greater pressure on the filter element, or am I talking out of my fundament again?

Not sure. I've been warned to stay well clear of HKS filter elements.

TRD one is in the post.

Wouldn't it be good if Honda rained on Renaults parade by fitting the NSX engine in the middle of a CTR body like the Clio V6 only better?

It would accelerate without the wing mirrors dropping off and the gear knob coming off in your hand for a start.

There is a re-call relating to S2000 relating to S2000 engine, dont know if your problem is related to that
