Cerbera Handling
Discussion
My friend as just purchased a 4.2 V8 Cerbera,P reg after expressing an interest in TVRs to me wrong thing to do as I am a Griff owner and a TVR fan through an through. My friend is an Ex biker and as such drives the Cerb hard (as it should be).He has told me that on shutting off the Throtle at 135 mph the Cerbera was all over the road,a frightening situation which he said was like driving with two flat front tyres. After consultation with the dealer from which he bought the car he was told THEY ALL DO THAT,not knowing anything about Cerbs myself I thought that this cannot possibly be correct.
Does anybody have any experience of this as a normal driving condition, just need some information to go back to the Dealers with and get the problem sorted.Could it just be worn dampers or something, although the Dealer says the dampers are good and its just been serviced and MOTed
Thanks

Shouldn't be like that, the only reason I ever come off the throttle when going for a blat (on private roads of course) is when other cars are in the vicinity. Otherwise it just keeps on going straight and true.Does anybody have any experience of this as a normal driving condition, just need some information to go back to the Dealers with and get the problem sorted.Could it just be worn dampers or something, although the Dealer says the dampers are good and its just been serviced and MOTed

Probably a mix of the following.
Tracking, geometry, wheel size, tyre size, suspension set up, steering components etc.
They need to take it out for him and get it sorted.
Someone else may be able to be more specific.

I would suggest at 135mph he shouldn't be 'shutting off the throttle' should be more like easing off the power in a controlled fashion? the faster you are travelling surely the more gentle you should be with all inputs as to not de stabilise the car in any way, and the Cerbera is a very light car with a light flywheel which goes some way towards giving it its quite aggressive throttle response which is quite uncharacteristic for a V8 engine.
I've had loads of suggestions given to me on the topic of front-end handling on this thread http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t...
Perhaps something here might help you.
Also, double check the tyres are in the correct locations (mine had been fitted "fronts on back" and it does upset the handling of the car.

Hi, I'm the friend with the twitchy cerb. I've just been out for the afternoon on a mixture of roads and have come back with a massive grin and a bit more than the car twitching. The floating feeling happens at speeds less than 70mph if you knock the throttle off, for example if you are overtaking and then need to nip back into a gap. It also seems to 'float' a bit as you accelerate at the beginning of the manouvre. I'll get the geometry checked first by another garage and then I have a second opinion before I begin spending on new springs/dampers as recommended by the dealer.

check to see if the lower front splitter is fitted AND the correct way around.
That wouldn't affect handling at low speeds such as 70.What size wheels/tyres do you have fitted and what tyre pressure?
mine goes up a lot more than that and its a baby 4.2

I don't think the splitter will be doing that much at that speed. It'll be more physical like mismatched tyres, tyre pressures, knacked suspension/bushes IMHO of course
