What does the runing it at 2000rpm for 20 mins do? Is this true for all cams or just the ones in the v8?

A brand new cam is still quite soft as they are designed to work harden in situ, getting the revs up raises the oil pressure to flood the cam with oil so it doesn't overheat as it hardens.

Raising the speed also reduces the hertzian stresses over the lobe tip while its still soft

This is true for all engines
