I'm running Silkolene pro s fully synthetic 10w 50. I wouldn't compromise this by adding anything

On a similar note... does anyone know how effective that water wetter stuff is?

Having a bit of trouble keeping the temp down whilst sitting on the top speed limiter on t'other car. smile

Worse than. Many of these actually appear to be harmful.

Never tried it myself but it is reputed to be very good.
Just bought a TrackCar cooling chip which comes with a bottle of water wetter.

I will report back on how good the chip is and then add the water wetter to see what difference it makes (rather than doing both together and then being unable to isolate the effect of the wetter)

The original Red Line Water Wetter is very effective...i use it in the race car all the time. Its lowered the overall running temp by nearly 10°C.

For around £10 you cant really go wrong smile

eek Halfrauds dont seem to stock it...

Anyone know where I can get some water wetter? (need it for friday - heading off to Le Mans!!) Any high street shops stock it?/ reckon I should take my chances with french petrol stations??

Cant really order it online as it wont get here quick enough. frown

If I run my car on reasonable boost constantly/with load it over heats just slightly - I realy dont want to have to run the heater on the motorways just to keep it reasonable!

I've been told its not worth worrying about, but the Smart engine is made of chocolate so I like to keep temps down!! Heard too many horror stories...

Im birmingham based, so unless they are quite literally just off the motorway on the way to LM I dont think I can afford to pop over. frown Dads work means we need to do a late-ish friday night dash to catch the race - I really need somewhere local that I can pop over to tomorrow ideally.

I wouldnt worry too much about going away and not having water wetter - it isn't a magic cure for overheating, and it is designed to achieve optimum results when mixed only with water (no Antifreeze). If you are worried about overheating, and you are going away in the car, drain your cooling system and fill with pure water i.e NO antifreeze. Antifreeze diminishes the cooling properties of water, and I doubt if you will need anti freeze this time of the year, so 100% water will improve things. Make sure you bleed the system properly afterwards.
Just remember that this is a temporary cure as antifreeze also contains corrosion inhibitors. If the car is prone to overheating it signifies you have a problem in the cooling system. I had my rad re-cored and the temp dropped by 10%.

smile Thanks for the suggestions, going to try a few little left field ideas and change the balance of coolant more in the favour of water.

The cooling is adequate for the car almost all of the time, but as I've increased power by approximately 45% (will get real figures sometime soon) - it gets a bit hot at constant high speeds whilst loaded up with the air con on. smile The Brabus versions dont seem to have this problem, though I do run a slightly more aggressive map than a brab - I'll look into some more permanent solutions when cash allows; however im quite pleased that I've so far spent under £150 on improving the engines performance thus far. hehe

Just using water wont necessarily lower your running temps. Some engines are designed for a 50/50 mix and the pumps are designed around this, to run just water can sometimes increase cavitation and make cooling actually less effective.
