Good question.

Though I've no idea what the answer is the bible does suggest that loss of power is a possibility. Reduced backpressure and all that.

I'd be keen to hear from anyone who has proof either way.

Ive heard that it will give you less power and torque

I can only talk about a with knowledge of a 4.5 V8 cerbera. A small gain an loads of noise. I now have a speed six and I'm not looking for that big noise, I'm quite content with the radical shape of the sag instead. Maybe a post on the speed six forum will yealed an answer.

Managed to go on the shoot, not the Candy run. My Wife would kill me if I did.
I've still got the baby lotion on the front, haven't washed it yet.

Speak to 'alans' he is currently running a Sag but he had a Tuscan and had de-cat and CCC cans on it, afaik he felt it was slower but noiser.

Mine was de-catted and CCC'd by the previous owner so I can't comment on the 'slower' part (although I've never felt short changed in that dept!!!), but I wouldn't change the noise it makes for all the tea.......evil

Back pressure never helps power unless its a two stroke(and theres a lot of dynamics involved there)less back pressure more power, although some can help torque.

Just think about it for a sec. What's the fastest thing on 4 wheels? A Dragster. Do they have cats/silencers etc? NO. That answers the Power question. But, remember these are not road cars so the exhaust 'system' needs tuning for 'driveability' (= torque) so that's why we have silencers and tailpipes.

Like That Daddy said - back pressure is only an aid in two-stroke engines. It doesn't help with 'power' at all.

So decatting etc should not decrease power, but may affect driveability.

tongue outissingsmiley: Can't fault the logic, back pressure = bad, tuned exhaust encouraging high gas speed = good, remove cats sometimes = exhaust now mismatched from engine mapping & running too rich so chokes on ahigh AFR and goes slower.
Sometimes cars run fine without any further work after decatting sometimes they need remapping to suit. Some more modern high flow cats are already part of the optimised and tuned exhaust and no gains can be had by decatting. If there are proven gains to be had then fine do it, quite often it doesn't provide any benefit, so why decat.

says he, having decatted his last two cars..................
