The first poor girl is my red rose Tuscan which came home last night on a low loader with a re-designed nose and front suspension. The second poor girl is the 17 year old who passed her driving test on Friday and re-designed my Tuscan with her Seat Ibiza yesterday. At least no-one was hurt as it was a fairly low speed crash (I wasn't moving at the time). The Tuscan faired surprisingly well compared to the Seat, which started spewing its internal fluids all over the road.

Does anyone have any idea how much a new nose cone, small and main bonnet is likely to cost? I'm slightly concerned with the residuals for TVRs being relatively low at present, that the insurers may think about writing the Tuscan off. I can well imagine that the garage bill for repairing/replacing the front suspension, alloys, replacing the relevant body panels and respraying (Crystal Topaz is notoriously difficult to match) could well be between £10,000 and £15,000 (assuming no more serious damage is discovered).

Bring on 9:00 tomorrow and an interesting call with an insurance company!

Hi Rick,
Sorry to hear about your predicament, I would imagine you wont be far away from the 10k mark to put right, that said the insurance company would have to offer a sum for you to replace like for like and not at sums for which traders are offering to buy from you.
I would be trawling the classifieds to see what is about at present to prepare yourself with some facts, ready for the expected argument. Have you got a replacement car included within your policy? this will make them act quicker to resolve I'm sure?

Best regards,

James Sim.

So your daughter passed test on Friday and crashed her car into your Tuscan on Saturday - hate to think what she's going to do today - mass murder?

Seriously would be better if YOU had driven into her parked car?

Rick - commiserations on your incident. I saw your Tuscan on the low loader yesterday coming down the A12 between Ipswich and Colchester. I was driving the opposite direction to Ipswich to try and find one of my Tuscan's exhaust silencers which fell off somewhere in north Essex! Found it, but it was shredded. Hope you get a favourable outcome tomorrow.

Well, what can I say - another Tuscan bites the dust. My local dealer has just told me that my Tuscan is not economically repairable as the chassis was damaged in the impact. As TVR apparently cut up all the Tuscan jigs a new chassis is the only option at £4k.

The repair costs of seemingly minor damage have been estimated to be £12-13k excluding labour, respraying and VAT. With the values of TVRs being so low at present it does not come as a surprise. However, it's an incredably sad day as I know my car had given great enjoyment to more than one Pistonheader. The big question is whether I plump for a replacement TVR (given the current uncertainty) or go for something more sensible (boring). It would seem strange not to own a TVR!

Really gutted for you, sorry to hear about this.
As far as replacement with another TIV goes well why not? The car didn't let you down did it, seems the antiquated driving test did that! As long as the insurance are straight with you and there's no reason to think otherwise I'd be out there now scanning the classifieds.

s6boy thanks for the post - you are completely right. I must confess I have been scanning the Pistonhead's classifieds. Let's hope my insurance company do pay a fair-market value.
