1 L Hamilton (McLaren)

2 N Heidfeld (BMW Sauber)

3 A Wurz (Williams)

4 H Kovalainen (Renault)

5 K Raikkonen (Ferrari)

6 T Sato (Super Aguri)

7 F Alonso (McLaren)

8 R Schumacher (Toyota)[/qote]

8) Ralph. Is this enough to stop him getting sacked?
7) Alonso makes multiple idiot mistakes. If He had just driven a straight race he would be second. Idiot. Having said that he did very well after a 10 second penalty. Obviously still a superstar.
6) Sato is a great driver who should be in F1. The best Jap so far to date. He is good value because he always races.
5) What is happening with Kimi? He is, by far, the fastest driver in F1. Ferrari are missing Ross big style.
4) Kovalainen. What can you say after his bravery in qualifying? A future great. F1 is changing very quickly as this superb new blood comes in.
3) Wurtz. An amazing result. Drive of the day. This must piss off Toyota big style.
2) BMW roll their corporate machine on. Nick has always been fast and a racer. One of the most under-rated drivers in F1.
1) Inevitable. A great talent. Lewis has the advantage of being in by far the fastest car. He could develop to be a great.

Is Alonso a spastic? How many times did he make pretty much the same mistake?

He hasnt managed to prove that on the track yet whether it be in a McLaren or a Ferrari

Mayebe he's just not as good as everyone thought??

Sod all racing at the front as usual - not a bad race as far as incidents though - Kubica just had a twisted ankle!

Even 10 years back he would have been dead.

yes the HANS device played a big part in that crash imo.

What makes you think that? Yes it was a fast accident, but there have been several high profile crashes like that for more than 10 years and the drivers have walked away from them.

The cars are designed to break apart like that because the energy being used to rip them apart is not being put through the body of the driver. Look how intack the drivers cell was, these have been bloody tough for years now. Yes they keep increasing the frontal and side impact tests but to say he would have been killed 10 years ago in the same accident is wide of the mark.

To recall a very high profile incident more than 10 years ago... Senna died not due to the impact of hitting the wall at such a high speed but because a wheel flew back towards his face and hit him - causing major brain injury which led to his sad and untimely death. If that wheel had not hit his head then Senna would have walked away from that race and the very face of F1 would be different today IMOA.

I was going to make a similar comment. Senna's death was a tragic freak event; he should have walked away from that one. There have been several "worse" crashes where the drivers have been unharmed.

In 1987 Piquet had a big crash at Tamburello as well, went in backwards though. No less an impact.

ya ya I know all that - (some place saying leg brake some just a badly sprianed ankle). It is the structure of the tub I am on about - hitting a concrete way at that speed and the tube being intact is amazing. Obviously all the rest of it are going to disintregrate.

Senns head got punctured by one of the front right wishbones.

Yep, for sheer, blistering car speed it has to be Kimi out of the current generation. He drives with such precision and loads the tyres up so evenly to keep the car "clean" through a bend. Reminds me of other very fast drivers like Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher.

Alonso is a completely different sort of driver. Less fast because he sets his cars up to understeer, which scrubs the speed off. But one hell of a racer.

LH sets his car up loose, so he can steer it with the back end. This, ultimately, has to be slower because it is not getting the most turning grip out of both ends of the car. So far he seems a competent racer, but being at the front is not the greatest test of this.

The problem in F1 is that the car is more important than the driver these days. As Gerhart Berger said, all a modern F1 driver has to do is to find the braking point.

SPOT ON.

Not hard - They are all good - but put them all in Equal TVR Tuscan racers THEN YOU WOULD HAVE A RACE.....wink

And to think they used to these sorts of things withthe current drivers at many GPS withe the Pro Cars and the like - this would be the nuts - All in Porker RSR's.

i was reading something about alonso the other day saying that he was incredibly adept at adjusting to the characteristics of the car. the renault had a very different weight bias to the mclaren - so you see him with massive and rapid steering movements in entry in the renault and appearing to like the understeery car - but you don't see this now when he's in mclaren simply because that's not the quickest way to drive his current car. i don't think he necessarily sets it up to understeer, unless that's how to get the most out of it.

The Oz commentators weren't aware of that rule, they thought it was a drive through or stop/go penalty; they made the comment that they shouldn't be taking the penalty during a safety car period.
