Valve and valve seat hardness question.

Bit of background first

Well my brother and I picked up an old Pug 405 Mi16 to do up and just run for a bit of a laugh.
Previous owner has at some point messed with the intake taking off a resonator and making the airbox house a K&N filter, so we are assuming this was the source of a small jubilee clip.

Upon hard braking it seems to have managed to go around the complex AVAC intake system (dual intakes with flaps and all sorts of chambers), and got up onto the top of one of the valves.
My brother did this just before pulling into the drive, heard a clicky rattle and so turned it off and freewheeled down the track and took the AVAC off.

The clip still looks like a clip, just it's got super flat faces on the screw head and screw body, the metal ring is still all in one piece so it can't have been there too long. It would probably still work if you had the right drive for the now slightly odd shaped screw head :_

Just wondering from others experience or knowledge if this kind of battering would have also left noticeable damage to the valve stem. My brother said it was just sat on the valve after he removed the intake, so I guess it's had a go at falling in and then been nipped as the valve has come back up


Seems to run ok still, no new noises or anything, any quick tests to see if it's still a healthy valve? Compression tests or anything?

If the valve is bent it will show a reduced compression so that's the best starting place, unless you have some way of viewing the valve first.

Yep, probably take the coils and plugs off and drop a bit of oil in, then turn it over and check the compressions anyway, as I feel the engine has had work already (very clean and tidy for 130k miles)...

Just hoping this cylinder isn't showing lower compression then... fingers crossed.
