I think i've found the escaping coolant on my 94' 430! The gasket on the right hand side of the water pump has gone (see below)

Anyone know where I can get the gasket from? Oh and is this a big job??

Cheers
Neil.

Gasket from any Rover v8 place, or most of the TVR specialists.

Easy job really, biggest problem being front crank pulley removal and dizzy removal/refitting.
Remove the dizzy cap, mark where the rotor arm is and mark where the dizzy is now in its mount.
When you remove the dizzy the rotor arm with revolve, when replacing the dizzy start with the rotor arm where it finished.
Hope that makes sense.
Stick a new crank seal in whilst your at it.

Ant has given you hint - that is not the water pump gasket its the timing cover (aka front cover, oil cover etc) gasket. IIRC you can remove without splitting the water pump from the front cover.

Sorry Dave that's double dutch to me (not very good yet but still learning!)

So can water seep out of there then? Also i'm not going to be touching it, will let my local garage do the job. Any idea how many man hours i'm looking at here? Car will be in for an MOT and to have a starter motor fitted while it's there.

Water has to pass through the cover from the block to the water pump. Cover is fitted to block & pump is fitted to cover. Removing the cover (includes water & oil pumps & front pulleys & loosening sump) is probably most of the hard work when doing a cam change!

Yes water can leak from any joint & your gasket appears to be broken at the face between the block & cover. Your problem is quite a bit more work than just a water pump or gasket because of this. I would hazard a guess around 8 man hours in total..

Just though that I would tidy up my topic ... just in case anyone uses it on the "search" pages.

Bought the timming cover gasket from V8 Developments along with a new water pump gasket and front cover oil seal, which were all a matter of a couple of pounds

Local garage charged £220 to fit (6 hours labour). The job is a bit of a nightmare due to all of the components that have to come off before you can get to the gasket, hence the reason for getting the water pump gasket/oil seal aswell (though that it would be prudent to get it done at the same time)

Garage appears to have done a really good job, although I've yet to give the car a good run!

Cheers
Neil.
